A nephew asked me about the availability of left hand .22-250's here is Aus. He had been thinking about a lever action in .22-250 until I suggested getting a bolt action as his main interest is long range varminting after foxes and rabbits. There is the Savage low profile which I suggested was a good buy @ about the $1400 but wondering what other ones are there. I've looked through the catalogues I have but am not sure what to recommend besides the above. He seems to be willing on parting with up to $2000 for rifle and scope. Ideas? I admit to having a soft spot for savage and Rugers Ross

And believe me, as I own 3 Tikkas, T3 De Luxe .223, Lite (for the rougher stuff and hills!) in .223 and super accurate out of the box T3 Varmint in one of the shooting world's most undertated calibres, the 6.5x55 Swede. Lovely rifles, need no enhancement unless you are shooting benchrest, but then why purchase a hunting rifle for b'rest, and they have the silkiest actions around. The T3 range is widely regarded in Australia as being about the best value for money their is. That said, most of their owners, if $ permitted, would purchaser their dearer sibling Sakos. For myself, I am content with 3 older style Sakos, 461 HB in .222, 579? in .243 and cannot recall model for .308. I want for nothing. With the Swede, even leaving aside the .308, the experienced outfitters for up Northern Australian shooting ( the only place where you do need big fire power regularly) have said repeatedly that on mega large boars, donkeys, horses ( but not buffalo or scrub bulls) the Swede with a Woodleigh 120-140 grain bulet is more than is needed.
