Getting my hunting rifle into and out again: NZ to Australia
This question has probably been asked many times already. But is someone able to describe to me the steps required to take my gun (And Ammunition.) from New Zealand to Australia (Vic) for a 1 week hunting trip, then bring it out again.

What state, hunting with outfitter/public land/private land?? All this depends a little state to state.

NT you have to use an outfitter to get your import papers and temp. firearm licence - this can all be handled through the outfitter. Other states you can get your papers with public land access or private property permission.

Not difficult , just time consuming. You cant use a local rifle on your hunt - might save a bit of paperwork.

Just got a reply from from Vic Police. You have to get your application in 28 days prior to travel, so that buggers that idea. Will see if I can use a locals.
