Do you have to have handguns tethered to the table by law, or is it a local business rule? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...tEkk&feature=related Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. I've never seen a setup like this so I'm assuming that it's one of the commercial rent a shot type ranges that they have in Queensland catering to tourists, especially from Japan and the Middle East. Don't want the inexperienced or nutter types waving the toys around. Saves them having one on one range officers.

Yep.. never seen anything like it either... I reckon our IPSC guys would get pretty pissed off if they had to haul a chain behind them. ******************************** A gun is a tool. A moron is a moron. A moron with a hammer who busts something is still just a moron, it's not a hammer problem. Daniel77

Whew! Thanks guys, I have to counter all the bad information about Oz gun laws that people spread around here. Sadly, it's true. That appears to be the now defunct VIP shooting range in Brisbane. A public range, it had facilities for non license holders to try out shooting pistols. The target market was the large number of Japanese tourists that visit Queensland every year. Sadly some tool walked in there a few years back and topped himself with one of their pistols. The incumbent Labor Gov't introduced draconian measures, including what you see in the clip. The pistol cannot be turned around, cannot be lifted past a certain point, and each shooter had to attended by an RO, not one RO per 5 as had been the practice. Then they went bust and sold a whole bunch of guns that had been left in safekeeping there, but that's another story... Cheers, Dave. Aut Inveniam Viam aut Faciam.

I used to work as a RO in a pay to shoot range on the Gold Coast for a couple of years in the late 90's , we chained up the pistols for group shoots where I could not watch all the customers (more for Asian groups) it was not the law then , just good business senses. Because poeple came in & picked what they were going to shoot & all pistols were in the safe until I was in there it was a pain to chain up & unchain each time , we had from 22 Colts to 50Cal DesertEagle & Uzzi semi auto too! The place is a SSAA range now !

I'm in Oz. If I had to shoot at a place where the gun was chained to the desk I'd politely decline and walk away. It's like at the post office when they chain the pens to the desk! I think most places are happy to give shooters enough credit to know which way to point the gun, or if not then at least supervise them accordingly!
