Hi all

I am looking for a stock maker for a project rifle. I started this with a view to having the stock done by Geoff Slee, since he has done all my stock work in the past. Since this is no longer an option, I am trying to find other options.

Names I am familiar with are Ross Waghorn and Gordon Cussens. Are there any others out there I should be considering? Does anyone have any comments to share from personal experience?

Waghorn seems to be the guy to see. My guys is great at all forms of Gunsmith work but he is not taking outside work unfortunately.

Gordon does a good job mate and he has most of Slee's better patterns apparently.

First 3 shots out of a cold clean barrel at 100m. Had been bore-sighted, first shot hit paper so thought i'd throw 2 more at it just to see what would happen.

Barrel is a Lilja No1 contour, the lightest they make & ammo is factory.

To say i'm happy with this rifle is an understatement! tu2

G'Day Fella's,

I think you have acknowledged the best, of the Australian stock makers! I'm sure there are a number of others but these blokes are all very impressive and World Class!!!

By the way lads, there are some very impressive looking rifles there!
I have a .404 Jeffrey that Ross Waghorn completed all of the stock work on and unusually, all of the metal work as well(except the engraving, and Phil Vinicombe did that)!!!
Unfortunately, I don't know how to post images....

Dave Stendel at Kopje gunsmiths just out of Cowra is worth a look.

Daryl Stevens up near Fernvale in the Brisbane Valley is another good stock maker.

Like you, I was surprised when I knew Ross Waghorn did metal work.

Waghorn is a damn good metal smith, can hold
his own against the best.
