Since it's illegal for law abiding citizens in England to protect themselves with firearms now, I guess there'll be a move to outlaw hammers there.

I'm sure the English will handle this in their own logical way (to them). Hammers of all calibers will soon be registered, a liecnce for each will be needed and you must keep it in a hammer vault when not in use. Anyone who uses a hammer as a weapon in a violent crime, and gets caught, will have their hand held and get free room and board for many years to come.
