Sorry to hear about loosing your rifle. I know how it feels, I lost a 1881 Marlin with a mint bore and double set trigger.(I would slowly kill the bastard if I ever found him)

It seems likely to me that it was someone close by that knew that you owned guns and saw that you came home without unloading your stuff. Wtih the rifle covered up and out of sight it seems strange that the only thing taken was your Hornet.
