Went for a bit of a wander with Shankspony, looking for a pig for the freezer. We saw a few and ended up taking a nice eater not 200yrds from the truck in the end.

Very nice! I particularly like the scope from that time before the decadence. Would I be wrong in thinking it might be a Zeiss/Hensoldt Diatal 6x42?

It definitely looks like the one I have.

A really nice looking bangstick too, and a good pig. Pretty country too.

So is yours branded Zeiss or Hensoldt? They came from the same old-Hensoldt factory, of course, and I am still wondering if there is any real difference. Also, is yours the D model with double turrets? Though they are the ones that bring the big money, I think that, where adjustable mounts are used, those with just elevation are probably even more reliable.

That is probably North Island Taranaki or Waikato - more to the west. We get a lot more rain & probably dairy country with the usual streams, gullies and pine.

You get a lot more of the rocky stuff in the south Island as central North Island.

Great hunt & I would love to come along next time. Waiting for an invitation! Wink

Naki, I thought you were going to head up here some time back after your shoulder operation. Anyways your welcome to head up. Im a bit stuffed with guests until mid jan now, but touch base and will organise something in the new year.

The original intent had been to get a goat and a couple of pigs that were doing some damage. The goat plan worked out perfect and actually it was a pretty cool stalk to get that billy. The pigs on the other hand sat on the other side of the boundary fence in a neighbouring farm all evening which was frustrating, but thats hunting and at least we could see the buggers.

I used to try for wild boar in India and over a period of about 20 years I sat up at night for pigs on more than 40 occasions and never got a shot. I got one chance and lost it when my foot made a scraping noise! May be I am not a good enough hunter for true wild boar.

I am surprised at how careful even young feral pigs are.

The goat stalk was pretty cook and thrilled for my boy. He shot his first goat when he was 11.
