Will be heading to Sydney for about a week, most of my plans fell through so now I have just about nothing to do.

Any suggestions of places to go or things to do?

Don't know Sydney that well. There is the usual opera house/harbour cruise/Taronga zoo. What are you interested in?

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Storms, I dont know what you are into but have been to Syd 3 times in past 4 years so here goes.

Ferry trip to Manly is an el cheapo harbour cruise, you can get some good photos of harbour from ferry.

Day trip to Jenolan caves in Blue Mountains, shuttle will pick you up for your hotel.

Darling Harbour, enjoy lunch/dinner at the many eateries and especially if you like seafood but not that cheap. Take the mini train so you see both sides of the harbour. Also the animal world, a kind of indoor zoo in at Darling Harbour.

Paddy's Market, good place to pick up odds and ends and kill a couple of hours. Take the monorail from wherever you are or walk. Interesting walk through Chinatown.

The Rocks, go to German Pub/Restaurant (Lowenbrough I think) for a Stein and some hearty German food for lunch or dinner. In good weather they often have a traditional "Oompah Orchestra" at night and place really hums and I dont even drink.

If shopping for city clothes you cant go past Myers and great foodcourt in basement for cheap eats but only on late nights in evenings.

If you are into that take a walking chocolate tour, google it.

Hope this helps!

After leaving the depressing NZ winters, just enjoy the beautiful weather in Sydney! It's a great walking city with good restaurants and museums all over. I enjoyed the zoo, aquarium, and climbing the Sydney Harbor Bridge (not cheap). If you just want to relax for a day, take a book and go read in the Botanical Garden by the Opera House. It's a beautiful setting and looking at the Opera House never gets old.

What sort of things interest you?

Getting around to see the various gunshops will require a hire car, and may leave you somewhat disappointed - any firearm will be behind the counter, and unless you have a valid firearms licence, you can't legally touch anything - different shops may 'interpret' the law differently...

Assuming that guns aren't on the agenda, there's heaps to do... Darling Harbour and all that, Manly ferry and have a wander around North Head and the old quarantine station (ghost tours as well)... If histroy is your thing, jump on a Rivercat and head out to Parramatta and check out some of the very early aspects of Oz history.

If histroy ain't your cup of tea, there are some truly beautiful and easy to do bushwalks around the harbour and other environs... Spit Bridge to Manly (return by ferry) is highly recommended, or you could head off up to the mountains and get yourself well and truly lost in some pretty rugged country (most 'day walks' are very well signposted)...

Plenty of good fishing in Sydney Harbour, gear is cheap if you're just statyng for a week (just buy the cheap stuff), or plenty of offshore available as well..

Kayak/canoe tours of the various rivers and reaches around Sydney.. Middle Harbour, Georges River, Port Hacking... and if you're into serious whitewater stuff, there's the Olympic Whitewater Stadium near Penrith that runs raft and kayak... or you could go further afield and hook up with one of the operators at Barrington (about 4 hours out of Sydney) and have a shitload of fun doing the Barrington River...

Let us know what sort of interests you have, and we can narrow down the options. Frankly, unless you're starved for gunshops, getting around to the ones in Sydney wouldn't be a priority...

Thanks for all the help guys, but I ended up cancelling the trip!

Going to try to get out for a few more hunts here in NZ instead.

Thanks anyways!
