Nothing scientific but my impression from being in Au for a year and some. People over the age of about 50 mostly all seem like really nice, friendly, helpful good sorts. As the age group gets younger there are more, "not so nice" people. I am doing some work in a school and see some very nice well behaved "kids" but a lot of disobedient, undisciplined, selfish little %$##@&*. Perhaps a product of a "no smack" society. Is there a good crop of young hunters and shooters coming along in Au/NZ or is it an aging population and a dyeing breed?

Dying breed. Breeding is the problem, the bottom of the gene pool are doing all the breeding and voting "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." Sir Winston Churchill

Yep, agreed, a dying breed. Increasing population and urbanisation prevents exposure of these sports to the younger generation. Sure, there will always be a small core of people who will always get out there and become involved, but for the vast majority of people in this country, hunting and shooting is so far removed from their daily lives that it's not even considered a mainstream (or dare I say it "a normal") pursuit. I suspect most Australians consider hunting and shooting to be fringe activity at best.

From an outsider's viewpoint. I believe not many are willing to go thru the hoops and b/s of the law's the anti's have put up to block newbies from getting into the games we've all enjoyed. IF enough of likeminded folks like us would get elected & changed some of that I feel many more would be willing to fight hard enough long enough to get into it again. THEN they might change some of the rotten law's that need to be eliminated. "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight

The current "younger" generation in New Zealand are increasingly the product of single-parent, lower socio-economic people who themselves are the product of that environment. Top Predator hit the nail resoundingly on the head with bottom of the gene pool comment. After too mny years of the Nanny State telling us how to run our lives , and paying those baby factories at the lower end of the gene pool to have more and more children we now have a situation where the average age of motherhood in this country is more than 30 years , and those who should be having families - the "smart" ones - arent , or are only having a single child. No apologies if this statement offends the politically correct , namby-pamby soft cocks out there but thats how it is , and its our own fault for letting it happen. To add to the situation , the European population is barely making enough children to maintain numbers whilst the non-European population is expanding at a vastly higher rate . And to answer the question about bad behaviour from the current youth - here it is a combination of an endless diet of American bullshit television programmes ,not being allowed to "discipline" the little darlings , and that ever-present single parent family thing. And what seriously pisses me off is the lack or personal responsibility - " not my fault" , " they should fix it " " I'm a victim" bullshit. Sorry , any more ranting and I'll start sounding like gryphon when he forgets has medication... I'm ok now ..... ________________________ Old enough to know better

Dam Muzza...I was going to say that. Seems that its the same on this side of the ditch. ------------------------------ A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Gidday Guys, Muz you and TP are dead right. My thoughts on it are that we should take all the pc warnings off everything you know like the one at the top of the cliff saying DANGER along with the fence and let natural selection do its job. If you haven't figured out that smoking isn't good for you then it is just as well you croak from a heart attack. Its just a pity it takes so long. Heroin should be available at the supermarket at 10 cents a hit. It won't take long for the losers to OD. I'm sorry if this offends anyone but that is the truth of it. The one resource we have too much of is people so lets lift the quality and get rid of the chaff. Now lets see the fur fly Happy Hunting Hamish

It is the same all over the world. I just sent my son off to university- when I think of the amount of time and worry- forget the money, expended on each of my children, who are, I am told, bright, polite, respectful, well behaved....and compare it to what other parents do for their kids, it is no wonder so many listless, ill mannered young people are wandering around. It takes a heck of a lot more work to teach your child to take responsibility, set goals, follow through, and so on, then it does to turn on the tv, feed them macaroni and cheese from a mix and worry about yourself. I put the blame squarely on the parent(s) And it is not really a race thing, it is a cultural thing- that is why Asians who make up 14% of the California population but account for 45% of University of California students. Their culture pushes their kids to acieve, to sacrifice- and now Asians dominate dental schools, medical schools, pharmacy, engineering etc. Most of these kids are foreign born and they will rule in the US because the typical "white" kid is too lazy and self absorbed to get off his tail and work. The new immigrants have ZERO connection to the West - the taming of the frontier, rugged individualism, hunting, wildlife.... And we are facilitating this with our "tolerance" and open, merit based systems- For example- read this study of Harvard admissions and you may agree we are abdicating our western traditions- and way of life, including hunting and fishing, to the new urbanite: Harvard admissions ______________________________ "Are you gonna pull them pistols,...or whistle Dixie??" Muzza; don't lose all hope yet. I flew into Melbourne on the way to a hunt recently and hired a car to drive to Gippsland. Car hire chick was a Kiwi and she asked about our rifle case - were we "Target Shooters" ... "no... hunters". "Cool!" "Good luck then". We commented that this was not a usual reaction and she said "I'm a Kiwi bro; hunting and fishing is part of our culture and I love it!" . But kids generally ... yeah it isn't good. Acceptance of guns and an outdoor life is still normal in the Bush. My kids certainly are growing up that way and everybody else around my area is the same. Can't speak for metro areas though sorry...Lack of personal responsibility seems to be encouraged by society now though - and that is what you have to be on guard against. I try to continually reinforce this to my offspring and it seems to be taking hopefully...

404WJ, is that an average of all the University of California (UC) schools or just a particular one? I know UC Irvine, for example, is over %70 Asian. ____________________________ If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today ... 2018 Zimbabwe - Tuskless w/ Nengasha Safaris 2011 Mozambique - Buffalo w/ Mashambanzou Safaris
