Slim possability I may get to shoot a camel or two in September of this year, My mate and I will take our cz .416 Rigby's thats a given (I don't need to hear that it's to much gun and I shot 1000 camels with nanas spud gun Big Grin)

What I want are opionons to wether I would be be better with the 400 gr woodleigh's or a lighter 340 gr woodleigh if shots are longer or say the GS 330's if I can get them or maybe some Barnes TSX 350 gr slugs.

What would people prefer if they where to use a .416 rigby for there camel hunt.

The Woodleigh 400gr PP. I have used it in the past out of my 416 Rem Mag (88gr of ADI AR2209, for about 2350fps, these are HOT loads, the factory maximum) with consistent results on large critters. With you Rigby, you should be able to get similar velocity with less pressure. I had mine sighted to be 2 1/2" high at 100m, which left it 8" low at 300m.
I think you will find they will work fine on Camels.

Cheers, Dave.

PC,
If you want to use the Rigby at extended ranges, I'd stoke it up and use the 400's. That combination will hammer anything on the planet.
Cheers...

Yes there is (was?) a 400pp, I got some of an overrun made for Federal in the USA. Try Pete at adventure camping and fishing in Wangaratta, he got them for me. These are made for the 416 Rem, not the 416 Rigby, which has the cannelure in a different location.

Cheers, Dave.

If you are shooting in the desert, a ballistically superior bullet with good ranging characteristics is what I would go for.

Nitro.......thats why I was thinking Gerads GS bullets would be perfect, I would like to purchase some of those 330 gr .416 pills with the .545 BC I reckon they would be great for desert camel shooting, more so than the 400 gr round nose woodleigh's. If I can't get them I will consider either the woodleigh 340 gr PP or the Barnes X 350 gr TSX, which has a .521 bc I think.

Actually nitro I think the Barnes X 400 gr bullets also have a great bc and may be worth a look.
