The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

I know I am commenting on an "off-topic" thread but ... Roll Eyes

That is the American Motto, not Australian at all.

If you must know, the Australian motto is "F@#k It All"

The fact is there is no official motto for Australia. At some point the use of "Advance Australia" was very common but there has never been a true official motto. Big Grin

Bushchook, I can't agree more, aside from the "In God we trust" part.

I noticed that in the UK, they went as far a taking about banning "piggy banks" because they might offend muslims now residing there.

Personally I think the fact that many of immigrqants can't speak the local language is the least of our worries.

One poster on my thread in the EU forum put it so well; "Anyone ever notice how as soon as people move into a new area, they do their absolute damnedest to make it just like what they left?"

The article is one that appears to have just been modified from an American one.

But as American values and Australian values are not too far apart the article does ring true for Australia as well.

The key thing about countries such as Australia, the USA, Canada and a few others is we DO accept immigrants with open arms. UNLIKE the majority of other countries around the world. Encouraging immigration is a key government policy. The good parts of foreign cultures also are assimilated into our cultures over time, good foods, music, festivals etc.

We do NOT on the other hand accept foreignors trying to force themselves and their cultures on us.

The EXIT DOOR is always available to those who come here and do not like it.

Now some Australian hunting relevant to this topic. Wink

Many of the immigrants that come here also have a HUNTING and SHOOTING culture. I was recently amazed by a couple of my casual contract workers wanting to buy a deer or two whole. They love venison and buy a number of deer each year to make traditional Laotian cuisine. Just pop a bullet into its brain, into the back of a car, and they have the whole carcase to play with, as they wanted the whole carcase for their dishes, guts, intestines, brains, the lot.

Many Eastern Europeans also love hunting and keenly take it up on arriving in hunting rich Australia.

Imagine if we got a bunch of dickheads who came here and demanded all hunting should cease because it is their religion to not harm any animals (eg the Jainist religion is like this). How would that go down?

I mention the Jains. I had a Jain friend once from India and he asked to be taken out hunting and me to show him the killing of animals! I was not aware of their religious beliefs at the ttime. And the "hunt" was in the middle of the day and nothing around so we just shot at some natural targets.
