The scary part of that article is

"Australia's annual intake from New Zealand will exceed 100,000 within five years. New Zealand has had no net arrivals over the past year."

Bondi is going to get busy !!!

Theres already 500,000 of us living there and you still cant even win the Bledisloe cup back !

Our unemployment would be through the roof if we could not emigrate to Australia, the problem is you get our workers and we keep our bludgers.

Shame - in todays paper - last year to July , NZ donated 54000 people to the Australian economy , whilst NZs population decreased by 3000 for the year - a net migration loss for us . Sure is a good way to prop up our economy...

Last one out turn off the lights ....

What would be interesting to know is what the 54,000 heading into Oz had based the move on & as 14,000 come back to NZ per annum ............things don't work out for nearly a 1/3rd that make the initial move.
- why did they come back & what was it in their expectations of the move to Oz that didn't work out.

Keep it up guys the protocol is that when your expats in a country exceed your domestic population you become a State of the host country to your expats.............you're nearly there.
No worries about the Bledisloe, we are not trying to win it............we will have NZ sorted when it becomes the 3rd state in the State of Origin...........He He.

Man assaults wife with ostrich egg

Posted 24 minutes ago
Map: New Zealand

A New Zealand man who assaulted his wife with an ostrich egg after her pet pig ran amok has been jailed for six months, according to local press reports.

Phillip Russell lost his temper when he discovered the pig had damaged his power saw.

He verbally abused his wife, spat at her, then grabbed an ostrich egg from the kitchen table and hurling it at her.

Reports said Russell, 46, had repeatedly asked his wife to keep the pet pig under control as it had damaged their home, a neighbour's house and council property, but she insisted it should be given free rein.

The ostrich egg, the largest type of egg produced by any living bird species, caused bruising to the chest of Russell's wife, the report said.

It said Russell pleaded guilty to charges including assault using an ostrich egg as a weapon over the July 5 incident and was sentenced to six months jail in Hastings District Court on Wednesday.

At an earlier court hearing, Russell's defence lawyer said his client, who has a record of domestic violence, had expected his wife to catch the egg.

The report did not explain why Russell had an ostrich egg, a species that is not native to New Zealand.

Here in the States we can solve that problem with the pig. It's called a barbeque.

This just in: The New Zealand Government has befor it a proposed ban on ostrich eggs. Under the proposed ban, the only ostrich eggs allowed to be possessed in New Zealand will be by animal husbandry concerns and the Poultry Council. Private individuals will be required to turn in to the authorities all ostrich eggs which will be considered (if the legislation passes) a dangerous weapon. There is a clause in the proposed law that will allow single men and women to possess up to two ostrich eggs if they are registered with the local authorities.

There is always a drift back of any people who migrate - don't like it there, family reasons, changed economic reasons.

NZ and Aust are so close, so easy to move between, and so similar it's not a lot different from moving states - except for tax, voting and similar gov't stuff.

Money is the main factor. If you are urban based, it dosn't really matter what city you live in,or what country that city is in. just chase the money. Also the mines are out over here pursuing staff like you wouldn't believe.
I'd suggest many head over not intending to stay forever and family would be a big reason many come back.
There was a report a while back that the Aussie speech is starting to become more kiwi.So were deffinatly contributing to makeing you guys sound better anyway.

Fortunately that is erroneous Shankster...especially in these undisclosed parts of the world.
We have only seen the one Kiwi (you) here in the last ten years, all the rest apparently are on the dole on the Gold Coast in Qld though I did hear on the rumour line that there may be a few sexual offenders hiding the sausage on some of the bigger sheep stations in the outback.

I'm guessing that was a NZ media ruport. The Kiwis I meet with a Kiwi accent, I usually just thought they had a speech impediment before realising they were Kiwis.

We'll go wherever there is work Gryph. But going by the number of us needed over there, thats an unknown word to Aussies. Another thing we might need to teach you all about. pronunciation, and effort. Its a big ask.

A sad indictment on us Shanks when we have to employ an NZ coach to show us how to lose Bledisloe matches...........I thought we did that pretty well by ourselves & didn't need any extra help...... Frowner

As for the pronunciation, my experience has been that they collect the correct OZ pronunciation about as fast as they collect the dollars.

The "fush & chups' test sorts the imitation aussies from the real ones pretty reliably tho.
For some reason those two giveaways hang about for decades.

I don't think that's the way Piggy Muldoon saw it. IIRC he said NZ migration to Australia improved the IQs of both countries.

It would have been a smart quip had he been just a comedian ...

G'Day Fella's,

Piggy Muldoon was just another slimy politician, so you couldn't believe anything he said! And if you would like some confirmation on this, just spend some time on a couple of NZ shooting/hunting Forums, to confirm this!!!

Edited by Homer, IIRC, isn't Piggy Mudoon now living or was living in Oz???

Doh!
