Dont know if they are available in the US but the Lightforce Blitz lights are pretty good . Come in a selection of sizes and light intensities , and all sorts of accessories to attache to your rifle or vehicle as well .

The light force 170 is what most predator hunters’ use. I use it exclusively in South Africa and for what little night hunting I do here in the states. Light force is the best line of lights I have ever seen or used.

I paid $AU119 for my SL240 about 2 months ago. Hardly think there is $US132 shipping; that is robbery!

When you consider that I sent an SL240 (the battery clamp one), red filter, 2 spare globes all to the USA for $38 AUD postage, I think perhaps there might be a bit of a mark up here!
Sure the 240 are about $150 AUD now, but still!

The very best, regardless of cost? Night Eater, made in Victoria [Westernport area]. Seriously uncheap though - start at about AU$400 last time I asked. Can be hard to find, because of this.

Good light for the money: Lightforce. In the US, this mob, at least, list the SL240 for USD145 including shipping.

I use the SL170 and the SL140 with scope attachment, they are they best lamp around but they cost £75 for the 140 and £95 for the 170 but worth every penny

I read the web page wrong. The cordless is US$245 the Blitz is US$145. Sorry for the incorrect post.

Yes that cordless one with the LEDs for low power as well as the standard lamp, is about the most expensive one they have, and sells for about $300 AUD over here.

One thing I don't really like is the way the Lightforce lights balance in your hand . With the handle on the very back and with such low weight the wind buffets them a bit and it is a little difficult to hold steady when driving over rough ground . Also some that I have used seem to be prone to having a few dark areas within the spot . Could be different globe makers ? Do I recall something about the electrodes on the globe not being pushed right in to the globe holder to get best results ?
Really think as a hand held light to be used from a vehicle my old 7 inch Blaza Light is better than an SL 170 . Certainly a more concentrated beam with a nice round spot . no dark areas and less scatter . Not as bright as a 240 though .
Depends what you want to do with the light as to what I would choose .

I have found the lightforce to be the best light for the hilly country I usually spotlight. Its easily adjustable beam is great for when you need to cover a close range large area quickly and then focus in on a long range fox or something. It only takes around 2 seconds to swap from floodlight to concentrated beam.
If you spend some time altering the way the globe is placed in its slots then you can alter the light remarkably. There are also different globes, the main difference being horizontal or vertical elements. They provide different light patterns.
I like the light weight aspecially on rough ground. They have less momentum due to light weight so dont move around as much IMO. How fast are you going to cause wind buffeting?
The best thing about them is their versatility. Easy to alter so many things: globe position, globe type, beam concentration, filters all simply and without much cost. The light weight is just an extra bonus. They are also virtually indestructable too. Drop it and they bounce with no damage. Try doing that with a lot of the other brands.

Don't get me wrong I think the SL 240 is a good light . The buffeting is more a "problem" when moving at higher speeds than most spotlighting eg. moving between paddocks etc.
Like I said I've just never gotten used to the balance of the things . Not a huge crticism .
Try out a Blaza some time . They're a good light though not sure whether they now make a larger model that competes directly with the 240 .
Wish someone would introduce a "blue" globe (as available for many driving lights these days) that would fit these things . The whiter light would be great I reckon .

Unsure if the blue light would be as good. Had some of those artic blue lights in my car when I bought it - absolute crap went and bought the 50% brighter globes much better.

the SL 170 is the best spotlite i've ever used so far....also sometimes use an old GE Pathfinder 6-8 volt sealed beam, that light's got beautiful tight spot with hardly any scatter....i use that on a small 6-volt battery while walkin around for porkers

I have a couple of Lightforces, a scope mounted one and a hand held one. They do a good job. A few others gathering dust as well.

Lightforce 170 on a detachable roof mount (has two rubber suckers that stick to the roof). Extended handle down outside the drivers' or passangers' door. Extended lead so more flexible.

Its a good light. I use a mate's 240 when we are out with him and like it. Being a "bit" wider, it catches the wind a bit more.
