Whooh!!!!

Reds, Sambar, Rusa and Chital all in one place and sitting round in paddocks.

I've heard a few of my aussie mates talking about this place and how they've poached it.

Do they have Fallow and Hog Deer there as well?

Looks like you could do half your Malek award in one weekend.

I do imagine they would have a lot of trouble with poachers as it is very big, and there are a large number of gates, none locked. Poachers give all deerhunters a bad name. The prices charged by the place are reasonable.

Reds and fallow. Some hog deer were released but I am not sure if they are huntable. Wapiti too in a separate block I haven't seen. Buffalo, blackbuck, black sheep, feral goats. Not bad.

Some of deer species "stood around" on day 1 as not many people hunt after August. Maybe one hunter since (?). By Day 2 the groups of deer scattered more quickly. But we were in a vehicle for these photographs AND the lens is an equivalent to a 500 mm SLR lens, plus the photos have been edited to cut-out unnecessary bits.

Some guys might get an easy hunt, but as usually is the case the better trophy animals are crafty and sneek away quickly often in the opposite direction of the rest of the herd. We saw a very good sambar and he was off and over a hill 'round-the-back' while the rest just stood there. Amazingly we found the chital by far the wariest deer species, the earliest to hit cover and generally they did not stand around at all. We could have grassed several good Rusa but no chital stood around except for the one in the photo which stood for a few seconds.

A question: the chital in the photo - would you shoot him as a trophy?

Second tine on the right looks a little weak, but length looks O.K. What is it 29?
I'd probably take him as a representative head, as I've never shot one.
The Rusa looks O.K. too.

I don't know the length of the chital. This is how I saw him before he jumped the fence into the bush. We did have time to shoot him but my friend felt he was too small. I haven't taken a chital yet and said if I was hunting I would take him.

A couple of hours later we surprised a bigger one.

The rusa lying down also looked good enough (for me) to shoot. We had lots of time to hunt and shoot him.

Again then we saw another much heavier but maybe not as long (from comparison on the photos).

We had several opportunities to take this beast including when he just sat in the open in the distance (within rifle range) having a rest.

My friend had high standards and wanted a big chital so we lucked out in the end. But both of us had a good time.

No - see the post to TrackersNZ. Could have shot 3 x good Rusa, and 1 x chital and with luck another much bigger chital stag if things had gone quicker.

Opportunities not taken, so no stag.
