I know this is way off topic for this site but hope someone can help.

The compressor clutch in my Landcruiser (Dec 96 build) sh-- itself and the local mechanic is having trouble getting one. 80 series, deisal, standard.

Repco carn't help (or at least in Horsham they couldn't). One mob on the Net quoted $1000- for a second hand one, not reconditioned.

When my son finishes at the silos, I would like to go to Fords Bridge pig shooting but I think two members of the family will decline unless the air conditioner is working.

Any ideas where I can try?

I also hate getting back into a hot car after being out hunting for a while.

Thanks,

Ross

GBB ,
$1000 sounds very steep . Is it the clutch that is shagged or the whole compressor ?
Would be very surprised if you couldn't buy a new non - genuine compressor and have it fitted and gassed for less than that .Get the details off the compressor and ring someone who specialises in automotive aircond. There's got to be someone in a town the size of Horsham .

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

The clutch and bearing in it are gone.

I think the bearings in the unit are nackered too as when I tried to turn it over with a 12 mm socket, it was hard to do.
there is a John deere mechanic here in town and he said if it was him, he would get a new compresor as well, seeing as I intend to keep it until I die or retire or whatever.

Apart from winding the windows down and drapping a wet towel over your head (don't laugh it's been done), try ringing Southern 4x4 Dismantlers 03 9308 6666 http://www.southern4x4.com.au or Somerville 4WD Wreckers 03 5977 7455 I think they both do over night delivery, they will probally be your best chance...
