Guys,
Cleavers is advertising "coming soon" and $1199 (Guns & Game). Pity I'm out of cash and refuse to buy from Raytrade Frowner
Cheers...

Havent there been posts on the big bore forum of these “coming soon†to the US for the last 12 months or so?

Would make a nice sambar gun though. I will have to ask about the option of re-chambering to a rimed 450, cos that would make it a really nice proposition.

Fergus,
My initial enquiry was with the Baikal distributor almost 2 years ago. I suppose its a positive sign that they are being advertised. I was initially quoted between $1600-$2000 and they were happy to take a deposit. Now it looks like $1200 will get you into one from a different distributor.
Cheers...

I might give them a call. Now that my usual big bore has been stolen, I will need a replacement. At $1200 ,I,m not expecting it to be a H&H royal deluxe ,but it should do the job.

Sympathy please ,I have champagne tastes and beer budget

This is the reply I got from the Baikal importer Dec 8th 2005
"We still have them on back order and at this stage no confirmation of delivery."
of course this is Baikal and not the Spartan/Remington branded one.

Look at the Spartan web site - rated to 28,000 PSI / 28,000 CUP

Fergus
The Spartan site says they have a chromed lined barrel so unsure about a 450.

Spartan double

There is still nothing new on the Baikal site, still says preproduction stage

I'll certainly be putting my hand up for one of these but I will leave it as a .45/70 - I already have a .470 and don't want the hassles of converting the Spartan.

Besides, I think that a lightweight .45/70 double could be a lot of fun with standard loads for pigs.

I can see this going the same way as the ADI lever action shotguns (the reverse engineered winchesters), Promote heavily, take the deposits, then never produce the goods. Unless you were lucky enough to have shelled out the extra for one of the "western action specials".

Maybe I'll wait until they get the guns out of "pre-production", this time, before I part with any cash.
Caveat Emptor.

Merry Christmas.

Cheers, Dave.

Yes, that was a painful experience but I wonder if you guys are aware that the Norinco version of the 1887 will start and fill the shelves of Aussie gunshops from April 06.
