I saw a custom rifle in my local shop that was made in New Zealand

it was a take down model, and the maker's name was on the rifle BUt I must be getting senile because I can't remember it

Something like JAFFE or WAFFE....anyway, seemed pretty nice, but the fellow who owned it said he paid $15,000 US for it? WOW Apparently this gunmaker produces his own actions, similar to a Model 70.

Does anyone know of whom I am speaking, and further, any information about the quality and reputation of the maker?

many thanks

I think hes kept busy.
Last run of receivers(10?)were 375hh length...bigger than what I wanted....hoping and praying he does a 270win or 308win length action run at some time.
at last indication, about US$3500 for such an action, blue or stainless.
But for that one gets;
mauser"C" ring
integral bolt handle
one piece triggerguard/integralmagbox
needle roller bearings in trigger,
Titanium extractor claw,
Ti nitrided firing pin spring
shroud with gas shield and screw instead of cheap rollpin.
lock out in 3rd position safety lever,
Follower that does not touch the bolt, so you can feel when the mag is empty.
Bolt rlease similar to Dakota.
Rockwell certified action components,
best grade globally sourced alloy steels
and most likely one of the most dimensionally accurate&true receivers in the world.

Come to think of it I should have opted for the magnum length action cause I dont know if any new shorter versions will ever come to be... CRYBABY

just spoke with Brian a few hours ago....he has all the CAD drawings for his size 6 actions, and that s all he is really intrested in doing....the real big kickers....505, 585 500j etc most of those are take down rifles and price wise are getting beyond the reach of the average hunter... his take downs are over 15,000 U.S
so i think your out of luck for a 270 length action

404,
my old gunsmith buddy retired back to NZ a few years ago, he used to make some fine stuff.
I think he is still practicing gunsmithing. His name is John Hall and he lives in or near Helensville. Might be worth shooting the breeze with him, he spent about 40yrs here in Africa.
later,

John Hall did a stock fitting job for me on my 6x45 mauser rifle . He is an extremely approachable and very clever man , and anyone wanting custom gunsmithing need look no further than him.
