after much talk, my work mate rv, and i finaly organised a trip out to one of his contacts station. they had been talking about comming out for more than a year and we finaly did it.

so we packed up the nite before, i have just aquired a new marlin 30.30 and had just tuned up some 150g winchester ppfn that the gun shot realy well so i had madly prepaired a box of 20 to take before heading to bed. we took off early thursday, normaly a work day but with so much time up they owed us a day (and the rest).

we arrived at the station and met up with the manager, checked to see the area we wanted to go was clear. he mentioned that they have been refusing ANY requests to hunt on the property for some time now Frowner but we were ok due to rv knowing the owner personalyBig Grin, i think they must be sick of dead shits who stuff it up for the rest of us Confused

the manager mentioned that they had a sorgum feild that had been too wet to harvest so had let the feild go and pigs were in and feeding in the area.

we head down to the feild and find the height of the feild to dificult to work in but at the eastern fence the other side was a gully running into a dam the over flow running down and out to the creek this was still running! in september!! hard to beleve as normaly this time of year it should be very dry and little grass.

we check the dam and not any sign, but not 20mtrs up from the dam the sign was EVERYWARE!! we start up the gully about 30mtrs apart and move along thru long grass and fairly thick paperbark. about 200 mtrs along a clearing opened up to my right, (rv was on my left) that left rv moving thru the thick stuff.

it all turned out perfectly for me, i herd the sound of the long dry grass being pushed aside as rv spooked the pigs out toward me, standing in the middle of the clearing. about 15mtrs to my left came two large pigs a white with black mottling boar and an all black sow.

as they ran past me the boar copped it first with a solid hit that dropped him then the benifit of the lever became apparent, no need to drop the gun off the shoulder and BOOM the sow copped the second shot low in the lung.

i turn expecting to see rv crashing thru the grass but it was yet more pigs!! i dropped 3 more before rv appeared and put two down, the second was hit in the jaw and let out a squeel that set the rest off, bolting in every direction. with 2 shots left i got another smaller sow and dropped a small boar with a lung shot that dislodged a section of lung the size of an apple that was left hanging out the other side of his ribs.

after the mahem, we gathered up the pigs and had a good look at them, the large boar and sow were about 120 kg each and smaller from there.

i am very happy with the marlin 30.30 all pigs were hit solid and i didnt need a follow up on any (except for rv's sow with a jaw shot) seven shots, seven downed pigs. clap

i had not carried any extra ammo, so it was back to the car for some more and a cool drink. it was bloody hot and getting worse, as it was about 11.

we decided to head off to the creek for a look and took the rods for a cast, there were bull sharks to about 1 mtr so no barra but a did get an agrro little jungle pearch about 10 inches long hit my 6 inch barra lure. wot a laugh, i bet he shit when he got pulled clean out of the water half a second after hitting the lure. rotflmo

we had a swim and cooled off. (checked for handbags first) and took off to one more spot.

it was a dence forrest area with lots of sticky weed (vine with large prickles that hook on to everything including skin) so slow going and seemed fruitless, just as rv turned to say "lets go" up popped a sow with a litter at foot, she shot off and left us with the piglets, they were tiny about 4 inches high and 6 inches long. we tried to catch one but they were to quick for us thru the dence cover but wot a laugh being out done by a 6 inch long piglet!!

we headed home and rv got to enjoy one of my homebrews as i was driving.

all in all a absolutly fantastic trip we both had a ball and hopefuly get to help the owner with 'feral animal control' again soon.

all the best, greg

we have got word that they are not picking the mangos arround the farm and airstrip this year. as last year they couldnt get enough workers in to pick them, so they are worried about pigs moving in arround the area to feed on the fallen fruit. i think thats an invite for about a months time Big Grin
