If I had a couple months to hang out in the wild (non fenced) high lands of NZ, what animals are considered vermin that I could hunt/harvest/kill to my heart's content?

Tahr, deer, chamois, goats, pigs, ducks, geese?

Any others?

If you know what you are doing will farmers welcome you to thin the herds?

I know different animals inhabit different altitude (climactic) zones. Could I hire a wrangler and his horses to haul in a tent/cooking fuel/food for a base camp?

Is it possible to hook up with guys who chase pigs with hounds and knives? I used to do that a lot near Uvalde, Texas. More fun than a BJ from Cindy Crawford (I guess).

Is it customary to donate some of the meat to a charity? We do that a lot with deer here in the US.

I'm not interested in trophy hunting (For pity's sake, I live in a trailer - the walls wouldn't support a head mounted hare), just constant hunting.

308 or 30-06 and 12 gauge do it?

Thanks,

LD

You could come and kill all the deer,Tahr and chamois you like as we have no bag limits, but you will not find anyone to help you with that.
But goats, pigs, geese, possum, rabbits and paradise ducks kill as many as you like.
What sort of numbers are you wanting?? with goats its not hard to shoot 50-100 a day
243 is what i use mainly for culling as ammo is light, recoil is light 12ga semi-auto is a must have or pump action
Some farmers will let you on.As for the meat, you not find it hard to find the home for the deer, but goats and others just leave them where they fall the pigs will clean them up.
Goats, pigs, geese, possums, ducks i can help you with.I do a lot of goat culling and pest control if you want to come along on a trip you are welcome.
If you do a search of my posts here, there are quite a few photos of the animals and the country i hunt.

Thank you TOP_PREDATOR,

I will research your posts. I do enjoy the culling. The more the better. I would shoot either 308 or 223 depending on animal size. I could learn a lot about wound ballistics that way.

Pity about the goats. Our illegal aliens from south of the border here in the US love goat meat.

As soon as I sell my clinic, it will be traveling time Smiler.

Thanks again!
