A few years back I lost a good mate I served with. He worked the doors of a local club while on leave and got knifed in the stomach by some spotty 17 year old kid as he was trying to break a "fight" up..I was not there, but people who saw said that he had calmed two youngers down and every thing seemed over when a third just stepped up to him and stabbed him while he was distracted. He bled to death before he reach hospital...The kid concerned only served about 8 years too...

Bakes,
Just like rap video mate.
Sounds like the clowns you are talking about are at least clinging to a remnant of male behoviour. With this new lot in the city and the three in particular that night I don;t think it ever occurred to them that a fight may eventuate.

At no stage was physical retaliation considered. Even when they were terrified and flapping badly they were using the only tactics they knew.
Insults, which failed,
followed by "trying to get to know him- so they could become more comfortable with him and maybe pick up a few secrets and cheapshots they could use to their advantage in a later conversation"

Not so strange in a normal social setting but the first time I have seen such tactics relied on exclusively during a punch up.

And the way they left their mate knocked out on the ground with remarks like "That's right lay around and let us do all the work with the chicks"

I guess he got 'evicted' from the show. The old guy was 'okay' and cool after all and would maybe get voted off next week's episode.

This is some new and wierd shit.

Karl.

Hippyhunter,
Wiggers bustin their moves

Seriously I miss the old stlye thug.Even the chickenshits who hang out in small crowds or people who decide that shooting someone solves everything are okay alongside this new generation of do gooders.

There's just something creepy with a a group that don't react with a 'fight or flee to approximate the threat' attitude.

A well ingrained no aggression or compromising response to attack.

I've seen the "get to know him" chat after a confrontation, I just don't get it. Maybe after watching MTV with all the rappers chesting each other and then go back to "singing" they don't realise that it could develope and someone could get hurt!

OR perhaps in this day and age they realise that people will be carrying a knife or something and that is the best way to LOOK tough without actually crossing the line of an actual fight? and when one lands in their lap, its not in the script and they start to panic?

This'll make a good study for you Karl. Imagine the paper you could do on these clowns. Unlimited study subjects.

At the risk of sounding 'old' here (I'm 37),........but when I was their age ie 18-20, about the only thing on my mind was when the next hunting/fishing/shooting trip was on, could I afford the fuel/ammo/bait and whether my clapped out car would make it there (gotta give it a valve grind this weekend boys....hehehe).
I find it kind of hard to relate to the current younger generation I must say, and I'm not even that old. I was NEVER bored that's for sure.
Buggered if I know what's going on or what they teach them at school these days.......seems a world apart from what I knew anyway.

Christ ,would have been funny to see. Problem with young fellas these days though is that they are too quick to pull out a knife or gun. Apart from a bit of cosmetic damage ,a bit of fisticuffs never hurt any one too much ,but now they have to copy the "gangsta rap" shit and start shooting or knifing each other.

Up untill 8 months ago I worked on the door at the local nightie. This behavior is quite normal from young folk who havent actually experienced a lot of trouble in thier lives and have recently been " set free".They are just feeling their seeds and acting tough to try to claim a bit of respect and when they "feel" a bit of respect, the acknoledge it by "trying" to be adult and serious with things. They usually end up being too "adult" with their sentiments and over acting.
The main thing I used to pull when I had this or similar trouble was to grab the recipient on the shoulder, pinch the muscle on top of the bone that junctions to the neck and pinch HARD! I've never had anyone resist that grab and have had guys drop to their knees crying with pain!
To any bystanders, it looks like you have tried to steady them or have them in a friendly shoulder grasp.
I learnt this the hard way from a bouncer at a club on Darlinghurst road in the cross!

Had a young drunken piss-ant walk past me last year, in the center of Brisbane, and then turned and punched me in the back of the head. I turned grabbed the little bastard and said, "You've had your turn #unt, now it's mine" and gave him my best knuckle sandwich right square on the nose.

Left him there on the footpath, half KO'd with bloody nose and walked off. That was 5.30pm on a Friday afternoon.

Stupid bastard; my father told me where my brains were and you can't do any damage punchin me in the head.

Very strange though, he didn't demand money or anything, just wanted to hit someone & get a bloody nose!

Perhaps they've been watching to much Rap-crap on RAGE. All the "singers" ever do on the video's is chest bump each other!
Perhaps they realised they bit off more they could chew and didn't want to loose face (to much anyway)so thought they'd keep up the tough talk?

I don't go out much up here but when I go south for courses we hit the pubs and such, I have noticed that the number of fights has decreased and when a couple of blokes do the stare down thing, they are hoping that their mates pull them away quick smart

Last one I was involved in was at Rocky on ANZAC day, one local decided he didn't like service personel so out of blue he had a go at the smallest bloke there (about 50kg wringing wet).We were drinking with Army and prision doggies and there were some big blokes there and Mr local backed down quickly BUT as he did he still stared and gobbed off.

Any bouncer will tell you about the way kids are acting on the piss. Gobbing off has gone up about 6000%. Actual punch ups way down(except for females who now fight more than guys), and going to the next level(knife, 10 guys on 1, guns, broken glass etc.)has gone right up.

Seems there is a whole new level of verbal agression and then when that gets too much there is a sudden release by self destructive acts, without the old middle band of fisticuffs.

I saw something strange the other night.

3, 18-20 year olds jawing off at an older guy who looked like a bit of a tough nut.

It was the real 'in your face' smart talk that comes from pure ignorance of any sort of physical retribution.

Well the older guy has grabbed one by the thoat and back slammed him. The kids coughing on the ground and the other two have moved closer with hand down by sides and started gobbing off more to him!

So he has pushed one over onto the road and the other has increased insults whilst swivelling to follow the action but not moving his feet.

It was like 'Attack of the game show hosts'

The first one is up and trying to be suddenly 'converstional 'of all things with the old guy "gee you sure got me etc." The third swtiches to simlar tack to ask the old guy "where he learnt to fight".

The older guy slams the original one back down and the third guy starts to laugh like it is all a big joke and everything is just fine.

Real backslapping shit.

All three kids look like they are flaking right out, real wild eyed stress look but will not move from where they are standing and continue to try and resolve it by various verbal tactics.

The original gets punched down this time the other two guys act like it is all too boring and begin to wander off taking the piss out of their mate who is lying on the ground.

I'm standing there wondering what the fuck it is I am looking at.

The older guy is looking like he just landed on the planet of the apes.

The original eventaully gets up and starts sucking up to him. Trying to get a conversation going with this guy now, real bonding shit, Apologising and talking about the weather etc . The old guy tells him to piss off and the kid turns smartly and does so.

Some one tell me what the hell that was.

Karl.
