Can anyone tell me what I need to do to import a firearm in to Australia. The paper work I received from the embassy say I need to get the chief of police in our area to sign an affidavit saying its OK for me to own said firearm. The information is a bit sketchy and the police department here says they are not permitted to sign anything and I get no help from the AU embassy. I'd appreciate any help...please. Max

I suggest sending a PM to Matt Graham (member here) who would probably know more about it than most Australian Police. HTH. I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables!

Hi Max Are you coming here to hunt?? Which state?? If in the NT your outfitter should help you with the paperwork but if you need any help just contact the firearms registry here firearms@pfes.nt.gov.au . If you are concerned about the Police Clearance section of the O/S Visitors Permit Doc then any officer can sign to say you are a law abider OR instead you can supply a copy of ANY firearm permit (CCW, FFL, etc) OR supply some kind of official background check. Once again - if you are coming here to hunt you have to nominate your licenced outfitter on the form. Cheers for now Matt Graham Sorry if you reply with more questions but I will be offline for several weeks starting tomorrow.
