Just got a call from my youngest boy's school. He's been suspended for 3 days for fighting. Seems two kids started pushing him around and he's knocked them both down (the other kids got a longer suspension). So...how do you kick him up the arse and pat him on the back at the same time? bewildered

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Greetings Friend,

You won't recognize my name as I've never posted. I live in the northwest US now but had your exact dilemma when I lived in Texas with my two boys. Older son in highschool, two "friends" started pushing him around, he said to stop and they didn't so he decked them both. A horses arse of an assistant principle suspended him for three days.

I picked him up at school, talked with him in private outside, told him he did the right thing and told the AP he was out of line since my son was the victim.

Got home and congratulated my son for using good judgment and encouraged him to always stand up for his rights. BUT, don't start the trouble, ever! At the time I didn't think he needed a kick in the arse. Still don't today.

Never had any other problems.

Hope this is of some value.

Gudlif

Yeah would have to agree. Just tell him to walk away if he can, and if he can't, then he has the right to defend himself.

Nah didn't really kick him in the arse. I'm a bit chuffed that he took on two kids and won Big Grin.
I have to speak with the principal on tuesday, the two other kids got a longer suspension and this dust up has been a long time coming. Apparently they have been picking on his little mate for about two weeks and they pick the wrong kid today.

Couple of weeks time everyone will have calmed down and moved on - and two bullies will think twice before picking on your kid.

Sometimes you have to stand and fight , irrespective of the outcome.

I'm guessing your education system is full of hand-wringing , limp-dick academics who are too spineless to do anything other than tow the official policy line. Ours is , and occassionally you have to take care of things your own way to deal with the situation - like your boy did .

Tell him to keep his head down for a while , it'll all blow over and life will go on , and you should get him enrolled in the local boxing club or Karate group as a bonus for dealing to his problem.

had a similar - took the boy fishing and called it his day off. kids have to learn to stand on their own 2 feet, especially today. your son did right, because a educator didn't see it that way doesn't mean a damn thing

similar situation for me in Texas,, My son was about 12, we have what is called "zero tolerance" anyone involved in fight is arrested and goes to jail regardless of age and regardless of who started it. A "girl" who was in his class, I should point out,, she was 3 years older due to past failures and a poor family situation and a different race. Standing 3 feet from a teacher, apparently she has a pattern of doing this to the more "affluent" kids, jumped on my kid and started punching him. She being a girl, and past training that we don't hit girls he never fought back. Even though the teacher said it was unprovoked, my son was arrested along with the girl. I had to go get my son out of jail,, go to court,, charges were dropped against him but he was still suspended for 3 days. Needless to say we had some very unpleastant counseling sessions at the school. I told my son he did the right thing not hitting her this time,, next time, he could defend himself regardless of who attacked him. We went to the deer lease and had a holiday! He has a great deal of training in self defense and martial arts and he did't have to prove himself very often but did so with my support,,Things are sometimes unfair but you have to be able to defend yourself.Pat him on the back for me.

The Principal knew who started it and was apoligetic about the suspension. School policy it seems. But your right Muzza, he needs some training...he hurt his wrist throwing a punch Big Grin, I'll have to string up the ole bag and run him through some drills.
