Hi guys,
I've just been asked to come over to NZ for a tahr hunt towards the end of May. Can anyone remind me of the documents I'll need to get my rifle, ammo and knives over there and back again?

I have a list that was given to me about 2010 on AR somewhere but suspect things have changed since then.

Thanks in anticipation

Pretty sure nothing has changed since 2010. You need to get a B709 from the Vic coppers (to import) and a RGP from Customs (to export).

Thanks Matt, I've dug up some copies of old forms and your suggestions seem to cover it.

The B709 has to be bifurcated into firearm and knife forms, I remember now, and an Export Declaration needs to precede the RPG.

An earlier post may have mentioned more but I seem to recall that some of them may have been redundant by 2012. A Victorian officer had told me I needed permission from the federal Minister for Customs to bring back the skinning knife and a scalpel but his office said they didn't care. The scalpel was too hard to get through Vic regs so I left it in NZ.

I will have to look into permission from the airline to carry this stuff, too.

If anyone can think of anything else, I'm all ears.

Don't forget to have the correct amount in NZ cash for your NZ firearms permit.
The airport Police don't accept cards and don't have change.
Good hunting.

Is there a place to get NZ cash in the airport before seeing the guys in customs?

Fortunately, I still have $NZ1000 left over from my last trip four years ago and nearly as much in NZ dollars on a card. While that would normally be seen as lazy money, the change in exchange rates has made it a reasonable investment Smiler

Bobby.
Typically, the Police office is in the arrivals hall where you pick your bags up.
Often the desk is unattended so use the phone provided and they get to you quickly.
NZ is hunter friendly by and large. Everyone from the cabbie to the house maid wants to know what and where you're hunting.

Sounds like Wyoming. I recall a barber's in Cheyenne where the only magazines to read were hunting ones.
