G'Day, I would love to see some more information about Remington's new 7615P Pump-Action rifle. It's a version of the current 7600P (.308 Win.), but chambered for .223 Rem, and using AR15/M16 magazines. There is a little blurb at the Remington LE website (under the 7600 series), here. ...and a bit more in the 2005 catalogue, here. Warning: PDF file. ...and a picture at the Shooting Industry News, here. It hasn't been released yet - even in the US - but if and when this rifle becomes available in Australia, I reckon it will be a huge hit. IMO it's the best replacement yet for the auto-loaders that Johnny confiscated, and everyone from bunny shooters to hardcore "the Indonesians are coming" survivalists will want one. I probably would've bought a 7600P (.308 Win.) already if it wasn't overkill for my needs, plus the issues of jamming and excessive heat with rapid fire from 10 round mags. But I figure the less energetic .223 and well tested AR15/M16 mags should help out with those problems. So this will be perfect. My one big question about the rifle is the legality of AR15/M16 magazines. The 7615P rifle itself would simply be a "Category B" firearm, but it may fall into a legal black hole if the magazines cannot be obtained legally. I've read the magazine importation rules on the custom's site, but I'm still not sure of the legal status of a magazine that could be used in a "Category C or D" firearm (an AR-15 or M16), but that is being purchased with the intention of using it with only a "Category B" firearm (the 7615P). What do other people reckon? | ||
