Hadn't been home to Waikaremoana for a few years and about 10 or more for a roar, so thought why not, so Jared the prodigal son and me would do a quick week there and then down south. The stag were just starting and the fiist day was hot and clear but had a couple going well so sent Jared and his cousin Te off down after them. While my bro and me stayed on the ridge and stayed in contact with them by radio but couldn't direct them in as confusion rained. So they muffed those ones up but while they were coming back up we got one going the other side so off they went after that one, jared roared when in close and it cam ein for a look but spooked before Te could get a shot.
That was about the last fine day there was as a few others down there would know, but jared managed a hind one evening.

When the next fineish day came along we were out again and manged to get a couple going so jared and Te were into it again, when they caught up with him he was just fixing a hind up so jared let him finish before the 308 ended hi long life. Was an old stag going back but was still a good sized animal

So that was about it for the lake and we were off down south to try out the new rebarreled Tikka LSA65 in 280rem. First stop was Tekapo for a Tahr maybe but that was not the case and saw more motor bikes, 4 wheelers and sheep in Bush stream than Tahr

Then it was off to the Whataroa to try for a head skin for the 10" cham Jared got in Fiordland last year. And yes it rained so had to wait 2 days in Franz before we could fly in, so only had 1 day in there. Not a thing seen the first afternoon except a couple of Tahr on a distant ridge, so it was a quick hunt in the morning. And the only cham seen was an 8" buck which donated it's skin and blooded the 280.
