Well I got a chance to see the Rugers yesterday. The CC ones are not very pleasant to look at. I Really want a CC/blue model so I'm back to looking at USFA. Have any of you guys shot/handeled or seen one of theese ? Everything I read seems to be positive but I sure would like to hear from some one that has handled them.
Looks like a Cowboy Action type shoot to me. With BAW trying some long range stuff. How many shooter at the match? Did any of them go to EOT this spring? I was there, met several Vegamite eaters.
The photo's are from our annual "Range War" - Quantrill's Guerellas v South East Plains Regulators. 78 shooters gather for 2 days to determine the best in the West!
EOT visitors from our club in 2004 were Rooster Cockburn, Big Bad John, Charley Hart, Black Bart and Bubba Two Dogs.
Me, well I like the long range rifles and I have several in 38/55, 40/65, 45/70, 45/120 & 50/70.

I've been to a few more shops and seen a lot of the SS Rugers. Nice for the $$$ but just not what I'm after. I finally got my hands on a USFA yesterday although it was a 45 Long Colt in 4.75". Now I just need to decide what to order. I never realized the 38 special was a 1902 cartridge. The nice thing about it is cheap easy ammo. I still like the 44-40 better but I want something that will just be fun to shoot. Still planning on the 5.5" barrel, Case Colored and I'm going to get the fire blued appointments. Other than that it will be a standard SAA, possibly with wood grips.
To be a member of their band of guerrillas you must shoot .44 or .45 cal.No prairie fairy guns are allowed. Bubba Two Dogs is Oz duelist champion,he shoots .45's I believe. Rugers are very popular here.Barrel lengths vary, mine are .38's in 4.75".Bad Ass likes his longer,he was shooting his Ruger.44 in 10.5" on the week-end from a shoulder holster???!!! That's just Bad Ass,he's a little different.
Chucky, The most popular sidearms are Ruger Vaqueros 5.5" barrel in 45LC. Our shooters that went to EOT said that the yanks were horrified that top shooters were still using 45's with close to full powered loads. The longer barrels belong to the 'Bad or Black' group, mainly for sight radius and for added weight to reduce muzzle jump with heavier loads. I have a pair of Rugers in 44/40 with 7.5" barrels, pewter grips and stainless bits replacing the alloy ones of the standard pistol. This brings the weight up to 50oz each. As backup I pack a 10.5" Super Blackhawk 44 Mag. Ther are a few 38/32's filtering through with new shooters because of our new bullshit calibre restrictions (require special endorsment from police to own/shoot 38+ cals) but the old hands have stayed with 44 & 45's.

I don't know squat about theese but I've been trying to read as much as I can get my hands on. I was looking at Peacemaker clones made by USFA and Doug Turnbull. I hear they are supposed to be nicer than the third generation Colts. I've always had great luck with Ruger though and the Vaquero looks like a lot of gun for $500. I can't see shooting 38's in CAS. Isn't the 38 a 1930's era cartridge ? I'm leaning towards 44-40 in the 5.5" barrel. Does any one there use the USFA guns or Colts ??? The Colts here run around $1500 and the USFA are about $1100. A true third generation tuned up by Peacemaker speacialists and finished by Turnbull can easily tip the scales over $2500. The Ruger seems like a bargain. Are you happy with the Rugers ?
It looks like the fellow to the right of you in the photo has 4.75" barrels as well and the other fellow on the left has BP frames. Here the .38's are actually .357's (I think) that they're shooting 38's out of.
What brand of revolver are you guys using ? Here the Ruger is very popular in the short barrel. Looks you boys prefer the loooong barrels. You guys shooting 45's or 38's ?
