A bit of head scratching here, but I think I saw an 8x75 at a gun show last year and the bloke who had it said that some ammo was being assembled for it by Custom Cartridges of Taupo. I've just done a quick search on Custom but it came up blank. However I know that the bloke who owns CC is one Mark Brightman. He can be contacted at; mark@nzsika.co.nz Mr Brightman is not cheap, he handloads his catrtridges. If he can not help you then I think you will not get any of the ammunition you ask about. I hope this is of some help.

Like the guys have said try Mark,if he can't help you no one in N.Z will ahve that ammo. Just bring ammo with you,you will have no trouble bringing ammo into New Zealand and you can bring 5kg on the plane. "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." I believe the 8x75RS uses the same brass as the 9.3x74R. Strictly handloading propositions.

That's what I thought too. I'm fairly sure the rifle I saw was in 8x75R calibre and that Mark B was to be "knocking up" some loads for the owner. The rifle was most unusual,it was a single shot, the action was a cross between a falling block and a break open in style. I'm sorry I can't be more specific than that it is the only example I've come across. I think it was made in Austria.

The gun my German friend wants to bring to NZ is a Blaser 95 combo: upper barrel smooth 12 bore with an insert barrel in 6X70 R, lower barrel 8X75 R. I will also bring a Blaser 95, upper barrel smooth 12 bore (for those big turkeys), lower barrel 30-06, so I will not have any problems in getting ammo. Of course we prefer to bring our own ammo. We fly with Singapore Airlines and according to their new website, ammo is off limit in checked bagage. I have already contacted them about this. If the ammo is available in NZ there is no problem at all!

Your friend may be very very lucky but a much safer bet if he can't bring his own ammo, would be to bring a rifle in a more common chambering. You could probably source your .30-06 ammo in almost any country on earth. If he does manage to use his 8x75RS it would be great to hear about as it is a calibre I have developed a lot of interest in. Good luck.

Nitrox, So, you have been in contact with your uncle Hermann, guess he must have pestered you with classic metric cartridges Did you get my email? Cheers /JOHAN

His other rifle is a 9,3X62, so ammo probably not readily available either I guess! German hunters tend to stick more to metric cartridges than the rest of the world I think. They like punching big holes in their wild boar and drop them on the spot instead of having to retrieve them from thick cover, which is not totally without risk as more than one hunter found out the wrong (painful) way If we can't bring the ammo and can't get it down under, we will just bring the cases and bullets and have them rolled over there! Besides, I can't remember the last time I bought a box of factory rifle ammo; I have been reloading for more than fifteen years now! Reloading and hunting is a bit like sex, you know; having to use factory stuff takes away a lot of the fun!
