After years and years of trying to get drawn for the ballot, my name finally came out - but only as a reserve - damn it! I guess I shouldn't complain - I should be spending the energy I'd be wasting by complaining on tracking down all the guys who got drawn ahead of me so I can sabotage their plans and get moved up the list!!!! I might also mention that I had been going in the Hog Deer ballot, religiously, for years when, one year, a mate of mine who had been working overseas was coming home to live. So, being a good mate, I decided to put his name in the ballot and he bloody well got drawn out on his one and only go - and he shot a stag, too - bastard!!!! You still did better than me, all I got was the usual 'consolation prize' patch. Don't give up hope though, a couple of people I know on the list are due to be deployed overseas, so who knows, the reserves may get a look in... Cheers, Dave. Aut Inveniam Viam aut Faciam.

Ha ha ha ha ha I've been drawn twice! Back since the second time have always forgot to enter. First time, hooked up with the other guys drawn and they were all great guys, except for one fellow we hardly saw as he stayed in a hut on nearby private land so didn't get to know him. One of the guys was a local guy so we compared notes and "shared" an area, he got first pick on a waterhole as he did most of the scouting before hand. I was lucky to get some tips from an Adelaide guy who had scored there a few years before and his tips for that year were spot on. Even took a nice 11 inch stag on what was probably the same waterhole as he did a few years earlier. Not actually a waterhole but a wombat hole with water in it. Was lucky, hey?! Second time, three years later, another good group of guys and a lady hunter. Tried same tactics but that year they were the wrong tactics. First time it was relatively dry so the hoggies came to the waterholes. Second time there had been extensive flooding, which also unfortunately killed about 60 deer, depleting their numbers. No one got anything that week, hardly saw any animals and nothing with the time to point a rifle at in the thick bush. After the hunt went and visited a local expert and he provided new tips. Bit late AFTER we had hunted though! Still good fun to be out in the bush and the hunting is easy physcially but tough due to the terrain. Both times at Boole Poole. Never seen Blond Bay yet. But you have to be in it to win a place so fellows keep trying!

PS Bob, just to rub it in. I also have been drawn as a reserve as well. But bugger good being a reserve is, unless one is at the top of the list.
