I hunted woodhill forest yesterday,we saw 15 deer and 2 pigs. Here are some photos of block 1 that we hunted. I took two shots at a hind here but missed bewilderedI went for a neck shot, the shot missed she walked forward and looked at me so i reloaded and went for another neck shot and missed again Madshe would have been about 150 yards away.I'm going to have to do some practice before my next trip.

Thanks for the pix thumb
Nice to see where other people hunt. Is there farmland near by or are these deer living entirely within the pine plantaions?

Muzza's photo's were of private property. How much public access hunting is available in NZ?
cheers

There is heaps of public access hunting you can hunt any national park any day of the year, the New Zealand government see's deer as pests thumbdown Woodhill does have farmland around it but deer live mainly in the pines all hunting in the forest is balloted.Woodhill is about 1 hours drive from Auckland CBD

How do you hunt the commercial pine plantations?

By hunting the cleared areas? Or by watching the fire tracks and other cuttings in the forest?

I have tried to hunt pine plantations and the forested areas are too thick.

Hunted roe deer in Northumberland and at the right times the deer used to cross the tracks. A quick shot, if any, was required.

All of the above NitroX,we didn't see any deer after 10am.The best place to get a shot is in the biggest pines like in the second photo, just on day light the deer are coming back into the thick shit from feeding.I sat out on the clearing(first photo) until dark but no luck.

Thanks for the insight TOP_PREDATOR
NZ sounds like a good place to be a deer hunter especially as you don't have hundreds of Roos to stalk around.
Getting access to free range hunting for deer on private property has been a hassle here in SA. Nice country though and will get some pics to post next time I go.
