I hope you guys across the ditch have a few quiet beers and have a good day. Least we forget. ------------------------------ A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Its pouring with rain here mate , but I guess it did that on the battlefields of Europe and The Dardanelles pretty often as well. Anzac Day should be the most important , non-religious public holiday Aussie and NZ have. At least you guys get tomorrow off due to it being Easter and Anzac on the same day - not so for us ________________________ Old enough to know better

I agree Muzza, no marching for me this year. We usually march in Toowoomba with the dogs but this year we've got a quite one at home. ------------------------------ A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. Has anyone else noticed that the soldiers in the pics at top of page are all Turkish?

Good spotting shanks. I understand there were several Turks involved in the Gallipoli campaign too , given that it took place on their property. If you look close you will see that there is a mix of Colonials and Turks shown in the pics. ________________________ Old enough to know better

Yeah, and they won the day after all, and at the cost of many, many more turkish lives than allies. I don't begrudge their photos being up there, but it would be cool to see an obvious Anzac scene alongside them.

Well here's a boy who's no Turk (although I have the utmost respect for them, Ataturk was one of the most underrated leaders of the 20 century IMO) - My son Adam on the corner of the Cenotaph at the dawn service in Invercargill. http://static2.stuff.co.nz/1303690029/293/4924293.jpg His Great Grandfather Bert, Great Great Uncle Foster, and Great Great Uncle Robert (KIA May 15 1915, on the "Daisy Patch") all having served at Gallipoli, would I think have been proud of him, as am I. Cheers - Foster

Good on ya Foster. We tend to forget that there were other combatants than New Zealanders and Australians there - we also tend to ignore the details like hardly any New Zealanders landed on the beach on the 25th April 1915 - it was pretty much all Aussies. Our boys arrived on the 26th ... The Turks were already there , obviously , along with a bunch of German officers acting in advisory roles, and the Allies comprised Brits as well. It was probably Winston Churchills biggest military f**k up in his entire career that landed colonial troops on the wrong bit of coast and into a campaign that would never be successfully fought. We used to have ANZAC trench scenes untill last year when it was changed to show both sides of the campaign. Easy enough to come up with suitable images and ask Don to post them instead. ________________________ Old enough to know better

No probably about it Muzza,he f**ked up big time, but who has not f**ked up at some point in their life. "Success has a thousand fathers, failure is an orphan" "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." Sir Winston Churchill
