Well guys, as patriotic as I am, and as much as I want to support our local industry, I just cannot continue to line the coffers of Aussie importers such as Nioa and the like any longer.

Our dollar has been over .85 US for ages and has now broken through .90 US but there have been no significant reductions in prices on items like optics and in most cases prices seem to be increasing.
I remember paying less for a Leupold a few years back when our dollar was .65 US.

Well I reckon we've been getting our arses reamed for long enough.
From now on, if I can buy it from the US then that's what I'll do.

As an example.
I just bought a Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10x40 Multi-X from
www.theopticzone.com
It was landed to my door in 8 days via trackable shipping for $420 A.
That included $335 for the scope, $6 for international credit card fee and $35 for shipping. Once it was converted to Aussie bucks....$420.

Check out NVT. They want $669 + $15 postage.
That's $264 more.
As good if not better deals can be had on all the major brands.
Want a GPS. They almost give 'em away with some scope deals.

I don't want to see any part of our local firearms industry suffer, but until we start to put pressure on these importers to pass on the savings, they will continue to screw us to the wall while they drive Mercs and live in waterfronts.
Let your local gunshop know so they can start screaming at the sales reps.

Cheers,
Boof.

Wow, sounds like you guys have the same problems us Canadians are having. I'm sick of it. some people are going to the saters and buying vehicles and saving 40% that's a huge amount. Now the auto manufacturers are telling the dealers in border states not to sell to Canadians. To top it off if we do buy a vehicle in the States they won't honor the warranty on the Canadian side.

I smell a big fight coming on over this shit.

I do it all the time.
It's easier and cheaper for me to sit at home with a beer in my hand in front of the PC and buy something via the web on the other side of the planet that lands in my letterbox within 3-7 days, than get in the car and drive for 2 hours (with the associated costs) only to pay more locally anyway.

Ive been looking into buying a Dillon 650. Its been the same price since the dollar was .83c. where do the Aussie retailers get off. I just got an email back from Dillon in the US after telling them about my dilemma about buying Dillon gear when the AUD has gone up more than 10%. They said it was OK to deal direct with them.

Regards,
Bob.

Guys,
Make sure you email the Australian distributors (especially the big ones!) and voice your unhappiness at the price disparity.

Here's another interesting point ... a stainless PacNor barrel in the States costs a US$35 premium over their C/M ... in Australia its closer to $140 Roll Eyes. Mate and I will be ordering MAB barrels ... but the next lot will come from PacNor and be stainless for the price of Aussie C/M Mad.
Cheers...

I know what you mean--I just purchased 12 "as new" music CD's from California, delivered by air, including postage for $81.00 US dollars.
If I buy them here, they are marketed "import CD's" and cost me $35.00 Oz each
I'll let you know when I get my credit card bill the Aussie equivalent.
You sure can't beat the Yanks for service

i think there clover run is comming to an end as more shooters/hunters are waking up to ordering from the states
the importers here are aware of the situation, as i recentley got told by a a wholesaler in the states that i deal with that they no longer are allowed to send leupold scopes to Australia....have a guess why.....the Aussie importer s are putting pressure on leupold

M98,
Exactly why the clover run wont end ... perhaps a sustained email campaign to Leupold is in order. Mind you its not just optics where savings are being made. One poster at AHN made a AUD$400 saving on power tools even with a US$130 freight charge. In my case, if I can scrounge some spare cash then I'll be getting a PacNor barrel or 3.
Cheers...

BUt they cant get every shop to in the states to do this..........eg; Grafs, optic Zone etc. And these shops have a good little thing going. I recently bought a RBCS ammo master Kit, price I was quoted here at my local was $1286.............kit arrived landed for $724 for me (got stuffed around with wire fees) my mate paid by CC and got his landed for $670 or there abouts. I don't sprout off to my local that I get stuff OS and I think the wholesalers are trying to get scopes put down as restricted items......................... Roll Eyes (this is a rumour I heard) but you save on everything, as Rouge Trade etc. are ripping us new ones................even on guns we are getting screwed over big time.
