I have pics of a Sako synthetic in 300 win mag that blew up on 15th shot from new using factory ammo.

the pics are 1.8meg in total anyone willing to host and post them?

Did this happen to you, or someone you know, or is this the same one posted on the net a while ago?

The one I have seen had the action split into two pieces lengthways, and the barrel into 3 pieces.

The reason i am asking this guy's is that i just ordered two Sako's .. there new older Sako's in 30-378
i was.?! going to convert them over to a diffrent case

There is something very funny about that accident.

The action split in half lengthways, and teh barrel looks like it split into three pieces - lengthways too!

I would not worry about your Sakos. I have several dozens of them here, and I have absolutely no worry about shooting them.

The funny part was that I heard of a custom built rifle - again on a Sako action - chambered for the 416 Remington. That has blown up too.

I don't know what caused that accident, but some reports I have heard talked of teh flutes being too deep, and too close to the chamber.

Of course, this is all speculation, and I hope one day we will get to the bottom of it.

Saeed, Im not sure but I believe the Sako you are going to post pictures of was customized. I believe I read somewhere that the owner had the barrel fluted. Could be the fluting was a little to aggressive and too much metal was removed for it to stand the pressure and that is why the barrel split lengthwise probably than taking the receiver with it in the same fashion. I'm not sure about this though.>John

Yes action in 2 and barrel in 3 length ways. There are 8 pics all together.

The reason i asked Saeed was these two were going to be
rebarreled and rechambered for 50/460's

Yik's i don't want to have to wory about eating the action
every time i pull the trigger on these i will be flinching enough as it is..
And i won't be flutting the barrel's i was going to go a kinda light 850 crown on the barrels 26 inch and just drill port them
The whole cost pre gun was /is only around 1400.00 each
but if there's somthing wrong with these type's of action's PLEASE let me know ...

The flutes in the picture look pretty deep, but I don't know if they were done after purchase or at the factory.

No worries mate. I have shot tens of thousands of rounds through Sako's from pre 72 Garcia models up through the new 75's, and fromm .22 rimfire up through a 375 Weatherby to 416 Rem Mag chamberings.

Put a good quality (Krieger comes to mind, I can't think of any other barrel makers ) barrel on it. Don't have the barrel fluted. You can run anything through those actions. Just keep the pressure under 65,000 psi, and you will never have a lick of trouble.

Barrel flutes are only there so the grizzly bear can remove your hemorrhoids when he shoves your rifle up your ass if you didn't kill with the first shot. Can't think of another reason for them.

That is pretty catastrophic for a blow up and I CANNOT see a factory weapon doing that unaided somehow. I really don't think you will have a problem similar to that. derf
