I'm getting excited to be headed over from Alaska to hunt with Barry Jones owner of Buffalo Safaris. We'll be with Barry for a week looking for a big bull and some hogs.
After that we'll be in Cairns for eight days then down to Sydney for a few days. This will be my first international hunting trip.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

I know the feeling. I will be "Down Under" in Aug. myself. It will be a non-trophy buffalo hunt then a couple of days fishing. Just got back from your state, went to Afognak on Kodiak. Beautiful scenery. The salmon fishing was slow, the halibut was not good but my son caught one that weighted about 150# and I got one about 25#. Fishing for Black bass and Yelloweye was excellent. Caught several nice Lingcod but were not able to keep them, out of season.

I'll be using on of Barry's.375 as my girlfriend and I will be traveling for two more weeks after hunting. I've got som bigger calibers but didn't want to travel with them.
I worked on Afognak in the early 90s with Fish and Game. Beautiful area and lots of bears. If I shoot a second buffalo I'm thinking about doing a double pedestal mount. Anyone out have a double buff pedestal mount?

Forgot to mention we'll be hunting in Arnhem Land with Barry. We'll only have one day in Darwin. Any thoughts on how to spend our day in Darwin?

August will be great in Barry's area. I will most likely be up there just north of his area guiding Buff est in August.
If you like fishing you can do a half or better still a full day in Darwin Harbour with someone like Brian's "Anglers advantage".

I deleted your post Cal because asking a bloke to tell you about his girlfriend is creepy and out of line.

Scott is a friend of ten years plus in Alaska. Nothing creepy and out of line as a quip between friends. Keep up the censorship.
Cheers,
Cal

Scott:
I've only been down under three times but each visit, Darwin was a very expensive place to be. Prices are high to screw the tourists, like Alaska in the summer months. Get out of Dodge and see the interior, away from the touristy stuff. Too bad you didn't bring your lady to Africa and hunted with Mike and I. We depart for Zim a week from today.

PS. I trust this post will bypass the cutting room floor.

Hi Alaska one!
Not sure of your hunts dates in August so you may have already been and gone but for a day in Darwin there are lot things to do.
1. If you hire a car head out to Litchfield national park- great place to swim safely in multiple fresh water gorges- it's a great place.
2. The jumping crocs on the adelaid river (bit $$ but good experience)
3. Mindil beach markets on the evening and dinner at the sailing club.
4. Spend time at the water front and doing some WW2 history tours- Darwin got heavily bombed in WW2.
5. Book a fishing tour with Darwin Barra and Crab (I hear he is a good operator and has success)
6. Otherwise head down Mitchel st and enjoy a beer or 2.

I hope you have a successful hunt and enjoy Northern Australia.

Cheers
