Not sure about NT or SA but it is definitively not legal in Queensland - specifically listed as Category R with machineguns and such. Cheers BTW maybe someone will correct me but I dont think buffalos have to be shot at the distance that would justify the need for 50 BMG rifle.

In one word - NO! The 50BGM is banned chambering in all states however 500Nitro, 50/70 50 muzzle loader etc. are OK.

Can anyone help out my friend who wants to come over from the USA next year and bring his 50BMG bolt action to shoot buff in NT but we will be travelling from VIC through SA to NT. The Q is what are the laws? - is the 50 BMG even legal in NT? Thanks

A while ago when I was in NT and looking at getting a 50 Cal ,I was told a loop hole was to get the barrel stamped with .499 or .501 and then it would be OK. I was also told that maybe it would be good to add something to the cartridge head stamp to change the name slightly and they will get through. Some sort of wildcat name would qualify it as long as its not 50 BMG. Is this still the case?
