I have no knowledge of what is available in Austraila but can's one use FEDEX OR UPS. I was just reading on the Alaska Outdoor directory forums that the ATF wanted users to send there firearms via a common carrier -- this does not apply to Austrialia I know. Just an idea.

O.K. Since Oz Post just took itself out of the loop, how do we ship this stuff within OZ? Courier, or FedEX, DHL, another carrier?

Cheers, Dave,

its okay to ship firearms within australia, what they are concerned about is the international side of thing...said it causes to many stopages to mail...i think there may have been prodding from higher levels

What is the bet this is the result of some UN convention or treaty that some faceless bureaucrat has signed us up for. There are dozens of the effing things(UN conventions, not bureaucrats- wellll- maybe) and you would be surprised how they are skewing the legislative programme in this country. There is a school of thought that blames our difficulties with gun laws on a UN treaty on the safety of women. Seems a society with less guns is safer for women.(Notwithstanding statistics proving exactly the opposite from the US in recent years.)

Yeah, it's probably a UN initiative - can't find anything related on the UPU [international postal authority association] website.

M 98, Today I contacted Australia Post to confirm the new arrangements you referred to above, and was told that nothing has changed and that their original advice of the 18th January 2006 still applied.

My query was referred to the Head of the Call Centre, but he reaffirmed that even Brass, Projectiles, etc are banned from being posted to Australia, and also within Australia. I even rang back and spoke to someone else but was give the same answer. It appears that the change of policy has not yet filtered down to the branches.

I would like to order some 7mm Dakota brass from Grafs, and also projectiles from Wildcat Bullets in Canada, but will not do so again until Oz Post advise that it is ok to do so.

Do you have any suggestions on who to contact at Oz Post. Regards, Brian.

Write a letter to your federal MP, asking for clarification on this matter. I already have.
If enough of us do it, perhaps we may get an answer.
Point out to them that it is a violation of free trade within the Commonwealth of Australia which is guarenteed by our constitution, unless Parliment has enacted a law prohibiting it.
If they have, ask to see a copy of the law, and the relevent Hansard records.

Cheers, Dave.

I think we should all write letters to the US Ambassador in Canberra and the Foreign Affairs Minister complaining about the violation of the free trade ageement.

I have a hard copy of an email that was sent out by Roy Smith (SSAA) after his meeting with Australia Post and the email indicates that Australia Post have softened their approach a bit and have promised to re-define some parts of their ban.

I will write up the email and post the exact words here, shortly.

Well after Australia Post lost my whole rifle and couldnt get off their backsides to investigate it ,I would rather send things through couriers now. At least they said I could get $500 compensation for the custom big game rifle going missing. Real good of them hey!

Sympathy please ,I have champagne tastes and beer budget

cr500, This Oz Post debacle is making me dizzy. Two days ago, Oz Post told me that nothing had changed and that the ban on posting firearms and components still applies.

Yesterday I went into a local gunshop to buy some primers, and was told by one of the employees that they were told the ban on firearms, actions, magazines, etc applies, but brass, projectiles, stocks, and maybe scopes will be allowed through.

I desperately hope that this is the case, and that the Oz Post staff get promptly informed of the change.
Regards, Brian.

That is still not acceptable as they just nibble away at our rights. If this goes through we have lost a lot. This was done to us without consultation.

They haven't even tried to provide a justification yet.

Hopefully when or if they do, they use the UN Disarmenent Agreements as a justification.

Shooters really need to wake up in this country and play the JAP card.
