Hi Muzza
I've done this for a couple of years ago. gathered 22 lr bullets from the target back up and made a dozen of 160 gr RN from a lee mould. I put a hornady gaz check on them and siezed at .309 inch. i had addaed 3-4% tin to the alloy and quenched them in cold water. result was good ,but the bullet were not enough solid and mushroomed too much, then i mixed them with 50% linotype and quenched them in water too and have a very fine cast bullets which can penetrate like a factory load soft nose and hold together . the pur 22 lr waste is certainly good for hunting small games.but you have to keep the velocity around the original 22 lr and maybe 200 fps higher if you use gaz chek and a good lubricant.
best regards
danny

Muzza,

The best source for bullet casting here is wheel weights. They are cheap, get them used from the tire shops.(tyre to you ) When air cooled they make a good medium hard bullet for pistols and other low velocity loads. Water quinched they will be as hard as linotype. It's the arsenic in the alloy that get it harden when dropped into water. Other alloys just get wet. They can go to around 2000 fps with a good lube and a good bore.
