Has anyone brought back cleaned boiled skulls from South Africa in their luggage, or is it better to get them sent back seperately.
Any information on bringing noncities listed species back would be appreciated. I have a hunt planned in October.

Matt can probably answer this one but I think you'd have to get them cleared in SA, then cleared here, I don't think the hand luggage is an option Confused . Have you contacted AQIS or what ever they call themselves now?

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Thanks for the reply Bakes, all the info I can find on the Customs, AQIS/dep of Ag websites suggests that if they are cleaned and free of contamination and not Cities listed then they are ok in checked in luggage as long as they are declared on arival of course. But we all know that isnt always the way an AQIS inspector will interprate what is written.
I just wanted to see if anyone had actually done that, do you have any idea of the cost of having them dipped and packed then shipped?
I have been hunting for a few decades now but only just got to the position where I can afford to start hunting overseas so I am all new to this side of things. I will take any advice offered.
Chris.

Don't even attempt it. You will need to have them treated and certified to AUS standards. If they don't meet the standard they will be impounded and destroyed. If your lucky they will let you get them game rayed at your cost by an approved facility. The will arrange transfer to and from the facility and charge you as well!!

If there are primate skulls involved you need separate permits for those.Buffalo "Bovine" falls into another category as well.

Talk to the people at AQIS to get the necessary permits/'info. You would be far better having them professionally dipped and packed in SA to the standards required from AQUIS and then shipping them over.

cheers

Nick

I would call Gary Pegg taxidermist in Melbourne and ask him (as well as AQIS). I believe you will need export permit/health certificate from RSA.

Nick,

What is the extra embuggerence involved in clearing a chacma baboon skull compared to that of a buffalo or kudu?
