Mark, I had posted a couple threads with different aspects of the hunt covered. Not sure if they're the ones you already looked at, but here's the links below. LOTS of photos so allow time for them to load. The plane flight was LONG but not quite as bad as the flight(s) to Africa, at least for me. I had an hour flight to LAX to connect to the Air NZ flight. It was about 13 hrs to Auckland, and then another 1 1/2 from there to Christchurch. BUT, the ANZ 747 seems a lot more comfortable than the SAA 747. It even had adjustable foot rests to elevate your feet a bit. As I said in the other threads, the NZ trip/hunt was one of the more scenic and enjoyable hunts I've been on. Tim Buma is a class act and goes out of his way to make sure his clients have a good time. Although shots could be long, the farthest I had was about 225 yards at an Arapawa ram. We managed to get within less than 100 yards of the tahr. We rousted my stag outta his bed, and he took off downhill, straight away from us. By the time we decided he was a shooter, he was 125 yards away. I aimed at the base of his neck where it connects to the shoulders, and the 140-gr. bullet poleaxed him in mid-stride. My hunting partner used his 7mm mag with 165 gr bullets. The .300 WSM should work great, although you really don't need that heavy a bullet for anything over there. Just aim right and shoot straight. -TONY Outdoor Writer's NZ Hunt Photos - Day 1 Outdoor Writer's NZ Hunt Photos - Day 2-3 | ||
