Good on you. With the current gun amnesty "no questions asked", there are a lot of old pieces floating around. I finally got a 1901 Martini Enfield Calvary Carbine Mk2 as well as a PH No 4 sporter. Picked up 2xWin 94's last week in 32/40. One is 1908 and the other 1912, both in good shootable condition.

What form is that 1903 Springfield. I have a real soft spot for the 30.06 and have several M17's made by Winchester.

Haven't had a chance to clean off the dust or run a patch through the barrel yet mate. Will try to get to it over the weekend and let you know - first impressions are a clunker, but the Jungle Carbine didn't look real flash under the dirt either.

I am getting really excited about this rifle. Took it to a dealer the other day to have it looked at. He is of the opinion that it has not been refinished and may not have been fired. (Markings show no signs of being oversprayed). The bore is in perfect condition, bolt face unmarked, firing pin still carries the blue finish. The only mark on the magazine follower is where the bolt contacts it when cycling on an empty magazine.
The only corrosion on the entire rifle is a slight amount of rust on the top and bottom butt plate securing screws and on the sling swivel on the forward band. In short, it is the best example he had seen

It is dated 9/47, bears the broad arrow and comes from the collection of a retired Army Major - it is possible he was in the right place at the right time - I do know it was his pride and joy, the one rifle he would not part with before passing.

The dealer offered a price much higher than I would have thought, but after being told that the rifle was not for sale, asked that if it ever was, I bring it to him first

Now I am having second thoughts about using it - dammit!
