Ruger No 1.

NEF?

I own a very accurate Ruger VT 22-250 already but I'd like another rifle to play with.

Haven't owned a single shot to date.


Curious on feedback

I don't own one but the people I know who do seem to think very highly of them there is one around here built up into a 600 nitro express I have been offered a shot but declined I did however shoot his 470 nitro express Merkel that was interesting!!!

The NEF/H&R Handi-Rifles are pretty good value for money , and available in a good selection of calibres . Rossi Pomba is another single-shot , but I dont know if they come in 22-250.

I have a Ruger No1 in 220 Swift and cant say I enjoy it any more or less that any of the other singleshots I have .

Any specific reason for wanting a 22-250 ? Its not a particularly popular calibre worldwide so finding a single shooter in that cal may be difficult .....

Check out the Winchester website they are making the 1885 in .223 and .22-250 with 28" barrel but Winchester Australia will most likely not import them as usual

Mine is an old Omark 44, it was shot out so I paid about $50 for it, then sent it off to MAB for a new BBL in 22/250. Seems to work ok, I wish I could say it shot .25MOA groups, but .5 MOA is about as good as I can get with it.

The reason i thought i would get another.22-250 as i have been very happy lately with the one we onw and I would like another to play with.

Any fox that hangs around out to about the 300 yard mark is in trouble if i can do my bit.

I really like our .204 too.

Have also been thinking about a Swift (I know, there is little practical difference in range between the swift and .22-250) as have never shot one, let alone owned one.

Couple of good ideas to check out above.

Get a Swift if you go number 1 .Number 1 V has a 26 inch barrel in Swift but only 24 in .22/250 . Rifle looks better balanced with the 26 . 1B's all have 26 inch I think .
.22/250's are like bums ...we all have one .I've had both and would choose the Swift any day .Has the advantage of being a bit different amongst other things .
The Browning / Miroku high wall is a very nice falling block and came with an octagonal barrel and nice wood . Rare in Oz though and I think out of production . Nothing on the Browning website anyway .

I just bought a NEF on Friday arvo in 17HMR after seeing my buddies in action a week or two ago.

Pretty basic polymer stock and the finish is not exactly Sako but it was as accurate as and for $350 brand new with hammer extension and a scope rail included I can live with that.

NEF also do the Handi-rifle both in 204 Ruger and 22-250 and just about eveything else really except for the real high powered stuff.

Check 'em out.
Great value IMO if you're after a workhorse or a test bed.

Rem xr 100 may suit you and it's a swett looking rig.

22-250's every where here. Almost as common as the cold.

Our two gun shops stock .220 Swift ammo and shells.

I could live with it easily!!!!1

I contacted Frank O'Riellys in Melbourne and they have confirmed that they have ordered the Winchester 1885 in .223 and .22-250 probably a year or so till they get here and price probably $1500+. I have the Browning 1885 in .223 Lo-Wall and very accurate well made rifle.

I bought a Ruger 77 standard in .204 and it is very nice to shoot.

Our 22-250 is the Ruger VT with floating barrol, trigger etc so it really isn't fair to compare them, I guess.

But I have hit a few foxes in day light well over the 250 mark with the .204.

We don't hunt them full on til winter as I like to keep the pelts.

I believe that the Ruger Varmint is now available here in 204. and it would be very nice.

Fiddly cases to reload though.
