For the past few days I've been fencing on the back boundary, always have my Bino's in the truck and couldn't help myself doing the odd bit of glassing over the mountains behind. Anyway spotted a Chamois, high up near the skyline. Today when I set out to fence I threw the 7-08 in the truck. My chamois had moved over a couple of ridges, but still in the similar vicinity. Chamois in the Hunter Hills are not reknowned for Big Horns, but this one looked reasonably bulky in the body, so hopefully good horns. (I was glassing from about 3 KM away.) I put in a good long stalk, keeping the wind in my face and avoiding skylining myself. I got within 400 yards of last sighting and picked him up. To my disapointment the horns were nothing special, so decided to let him grow. Sat and watched him for half an hour or so, bouncing about on his hind legs and playing in the sun. Frequently he would kind of spook and look over his shoulder towards the next small gully. Had to be something there. I stalked round a small rocky outcrop and there spotted a second Buck, not a monster but not a bad 9 inch Buck, so decided to shoot him. My first shot was a little low, stopped him but didn't put him down, so I let off another which did the job nicely. Photographed him, gutted him (Carefully) and carried him out whole to my truck about 3 KM away. A pleasant afternoon's hunt. TrackersNZ, What would you think about some teaching for a month or so while I take over the fencing? I know you could handle the teaching but I don't know about me and fencing. | |||
