In the mid 1960's i had the 3rd 35-378 built in the JC vertion .
It took 114 grain IMR 4831 A large mag primer and a speer
250 grain bullet.
Every time it went off it looked like a lazer light show
i have a lep/ 3x9 with peralex ajustment and a 3 1/3 sun shade i used a Dougless air gauge 28 inch barrel that
had a 750 crown the stock was English black wallnut
and the trigger was a canjar.

It only took about 5 round's to turn my should black and blue and in 10 rounds i was really back and blue
-------
These will not be for plicking at 1000 yards there for
hunting in Africa and thats it .

I hope you have fun with your' 378 Weatherby
there much better with lighter loads and smaller bullet
250 grain .375 Diam bullet's in reduced loads arn't to bad
For fun load one up as hot as you can and bench rest it ..
i will await your report from the ER

I am heading out tomow/ to go pick them up

You might think about going a 9 1/2 inch barrel rib and a 3 leaf rear sight.. .

P.S Watch out for the recoil and the 3rd eye with a scope

I have a 375 Weatherby on a Sako coming in about one month. It's actually an original factory rifle! That would be a fun cartridge for you, eh?

Danny,
The first time I saw those pictures I thought that it looked like this rifle had been dunked in a liquid nitrogen tank. I believe their new actions are investment castings. This just doesn't look like any other blown rifle that I've ever seen, either in person, or via pictures. I would love to look at the fracture planes under a microscope. Would also love to read the forensic engineer's report.
Krieger barrels is at least using the 410 alloy in their lighter weight stainless barrels.

Hey Martin,
I may be over your way after the first of the year. I'll buy you a cup of coffee. We need to have a strategy session for your project. Actually I have several rifles with the AV magnum actions - all are Chrome Moly. Very strong, very safe actions. From a feeding point of view you might want to keep to 416 Rem Mag dimensions on down.
I plan to keep buying AV actions and making rifles out of them afor a long time. Those McMillan stocks work so well.

I don't think I will be buying too many more stainless steel hunting rifles. As Danny pointed out, the 416 is a crappy alloy. It is easy machining; that is its only good point.
