yes mate. Thousands of them in central Australia, all feral.

try googling for feral animals in Aus ..we have hundreds of thousands of all species that are subjected to Gov chopper shooting culls on a regular basis.

Is the hunting seasonal? on government tags? based on formal population control? what is done with the carcasses? Is it heavily regulated or a free for all (like our feral hogs)? As some of the animals appear to be domesticated (camels and donkys) is there any market for capturing them live and selling them?
No tags needed only permission from property (station) owners.
Some pet food trade but usually left to rot as in you need to be well equipped to handle hundreds of donkeys shot in a day and as Aus is BIG its a tough ask to get the chiller trucks into often remote areas....most rot or feed the wild pigs and dingo`s.
There was and maybe still is a market as we did have live capture fellas exporting our camels back to the Arabs as our Dromedary camels are the purest blood in the world, originally brought out in the 1800`s by Afghans to work as draft animals for railways, exploring the interior and such.

how would I go about setting up a hunt for these guys without having to mess with a hunting company. Having a guide magically turns them into expensive mega-thousand dollar game animals.
I've done the Northern Territory cull shoot for donkeys (and some other things thrown in including camels) for ten days with Bob Penfold of Hunt Australia. The logistics are daunting. The PH brought in a truckload of 308 and 30-06 ammo at the beginning of the season and it was a 24-hour 4WD drive. He had some ranches leased up and we went through a couple thousand rounds of ammo shooting up (amoung other things) 606 donkeys in 4 1/2 days.
This is NOT like driving to South Dakota and shooting some prarrie dogs. Plus everything you touch in the outback is pricey; food, fuel, beer, etc.
Bob Penfold has retired. Check with Matt Graham who now runs Hunt Australia.

It would cost a fortune as a Old Bull is huge , but I don't mount em , just skin em , so sorry I dont have a price . Some of our guys are very rich & money seems to be no object !

Gryphon,I reckon a full mount camel would be over 20k! Mate of mine is getting an 18 foot croc mounted. No change out of 30k after freight etc etc. I remember John Robinson doing a half elephant mount in the 80's. also his full sambar mounts were beautiful.

Robinson? Not that I am aware of every T/dermist in Aus but anyone doing or has done full mount sambar would be known throughout the deer hunting community, got a link or some more info/pics etc?

Used to be taralgon[i think it is spelt like that]he used to do all Maliks trophies. Also did a full moose for Malik. They had to take the windows out of Maliks second floor trophy room and use a crane to get it in. The elephant was for some guy in Canberra. Lu Cervi took me around there one day to pick up some heads. Robinson was a real artist. Don't know of his whereabouts lately

Ok tar,Traralgon is the other end of the earth for this black duck but Robbo sounds like he would do anything, maybe he has retired as there are none or dont seem to be any ads in any of the mags.
