I'm flying into Auckland next Monday for a couple of days. I'll be working out by the airport but staying down on Prince's Wharf. Where can I find a good gunshop to visit and chat with some people about guns, hunting etc.?

You could try the following -

SAI Guns and Ammo , 553 Great South Road , Penrose , Auckland - run by an Aussie and a Pom , but they do have a reasonable stock and lots of free BS

Reloaders Supplies , major gundealer and supplier , out in the suburbs more , dont have an address but phone is (09) 6365407

NZ Hunting Supplies in Lynfield Auckland ph 025 935 050
dont have a street adress

and definately Sportsways Gunshed in Normanby Road , close to the middle of town . Look in the local phonebook when you get there .

Cant help a lot more , dont go the Dorkland often enough to know my way around , its one of those places that improves as it diminishes in the rear view mirror.Also has an International Airport , but lacks any other inviting features....

Well I had a short business trip to Auckland and managed to visit Serious Shooters Gunshop in Penrose, Auckland along with SAI gunshop that's right next door.

My respect for you guys there in NZ is increasing, you all have to pay a serious amount of money to enjoy your sport there. $1800 NZ ($1350 US) for a M-70 in 243 is a stiff price compared to here.

The one thing that sticks in my mind is that within minutes of identifying me as a Yank the guys in gunshop had to bring up how easy it is for them to get silencers. Too funny, that that is what everyone assumes would interest an American coming in to chat.
