That looks a bit like some of the anti-ambush devices that were used by Rhodesians in the 70's. Those were attached to vehicles, though. On the other hand, it could be some sort of a "Punt gun", used for shooting waterfowl, but probably not...? Beats me.

Its a 1" Nordenfeldt Naval Mounted - c.1880's. It was used primarily for anti-torpedo work , and fired all four barrels at once . Loading was by means of the lift-up gate at the rear. Rate of fire was not high , certainly less than the 400 rpm available in the single barreled smaller calibre version but the firepower from 4 barrels at once was impressive . The cartridge lived on as the 1" Aiming Rifle Sub-Caliber for artillery pieces and is often seen at gunshows. Enough detail for you ER/FC ? ________________________ Old enough to know better

We have a winner! ![]() Loading was via a hopper on top, long since rusted away.Nordenfelts were available from two barrels up to 10. There was even a two barreled version at a park in Bundaberg right next to the Zoo.The lever is intact on this one. Thorsden Nordenfelt was a Swede who went one to become the father of the modern Submarine.Lots of good reading if you do a Google. Well done my stumpy-winged flightless bird. ![]() ![]() ![]() Regards,Shaun. Kids in the back seat cause accidents, accidents in the back seat cause kids.

Actually my first guess was a Palmkrantz , but the shape of the front barrel support gave it away and besides , it was pretty unlikely that an obscure machinegun from Europe would end up in a park in Oz - New Zealand maybe , but very unlikely for you guys . NZ seemed to be a dumping ground for the rest of the worlds military surplus , but we had a need for such items to wage war with our indigenous inhabitants of the day - you guys used to hunt yours at the weekends for sport .... ![]() ________________________ Old enough to know better
