Gents, with my weight loss I no longer fit into my old cams. As such I've been looking around on various sites at hunting clobber. Its all a bit pricey Eeker. Considering I'm in the sub tropics but am looking at some hunts to the New England area this winter, what are your recommendations on clothing?

I had been buying Swazi for years, but as he rolled over on gun owners I will never buy Swazi again.

I did the hunting in my uniform thing. Couldn't get the bloody pig blood out of them. Big Grin

Would rather a different set of clothing rather then my current uniform.

so buy a spare set of used gear.

Seems you are over-thinking this too much

Yeah did think of that but want some warm stuff as well. DPCU's don't do so well in the cold areas.

i would have recommended Swazi gear but after the owner of swazi sold gun owners down the river I dont think thats a recommendation I can make any more .

These guys are local for you and they seem to make middle of the road gear.

That is new to me, what happend exactely?

Swazi are gaining ground here in Norway as we often have cold and wet weather in the hunting season.

This from the guy that started Swazi , and made a hell of a lot of money from hunters and rural folk, and then threw his client base under the bus when proposed law changes suddenly appeared

What about brown or green King G or equivalent? I don’t believe that camo patterns and camo brand names are necessary.

I looked at that.....but I'm a sucker for some camo. Just bought some Ridgeline pants yesterday for fairly good price.

That did me in the NT but the grasses here give me hell. I get itchy as buggery for some reason.

I have one go too garment. Its the Huntech Ghillie. The material and pattern seems to offer a really good ability to blend in most environments. Its not meant for warmth but rather as a lite quick drying outer layer. Even use it as my towel on longer trips when weight is an issue. After that it doesn't matter what you wear as long as this is covering you. leaves me open to just by plain green or brown tops etc.

A sight for sore eyes he is not! rotflmo

If you want cold wear Cabelas Berber fleece works well.

I have a ton of cold weather gear I do a lot of mixing and layering of all types/brands depending on the day.

I have several pair of old fashion military and commercial wool pants. I like layering with high tec underwear

One thing I don't go without when there is snow on the ground is a good pair of gators.

I find cotton gear is good for hot weather and day trips if there is minimal expectation to sweat right through or get drenched and you are not in the field multiple days. The problem is its hydrophilic, meaning once wet it holds its moisture and doesn't dry well on the body.

This is why militaries went to a poly/cotton mix about 30 years ago, the poly doesn't hold water. They are slighty hotter to wear but in severe humidity and obviously rain more chance of drying on the body. As you probably know having worn the same shit I have Bakes Big Grin

If its light bush, limited contact with it, but I still need long sleeved protection, my pick these days is any regular non-fancy brand mid/lightweight high synthetic/low cotton % mixes. I dont pay for fancy brands for hot weather gear, its a waste of money as far as I am concerned. The gear ends up fraying or rotting before long in the most tropical climes anyway.

The majority of my hunting I often just put a fishing or shooting vest over a bare chest and a pair of cargo shorts.

If I am crawling after pigs in rainforest obviously the clothing gets longer and the material weight has to increase and I also prefer ripstop cross hatching through it. I still avoid 100% cotton though, one day of being drenched in 95% humidity puts me off it.

I lashed out and got a pair of Ridgeline pants and have an old DPCU shirt on top. Doesn't match but hey...I'm a rebel.
