The language is certainly going to hell. When I was a boy the definite article was supposed to be pronounced thuh before words beginning with consonants and thee before vowels.

Now, through some belated Websterization, its thuh all the way, even when asserting something is the most important of its type: thuh apple, thuh answer.

(That one comes up every night from Tom Gleeson on Hard Quiz. I asked whether the ABC had a style book but got no reply. Soon after, I heard Ita Buttrose talking about thuh ABC and knew it was all over.)
