Just like brothers living under the same roof or the guys in camp after a day's hunting, razzing each other .
let an outsider pose a threat & 'the brothers' will stand side by side & not give an inch.
...........it instantly becomes a 'family' thing.
The razzing is just entertainment, it only becomes an issue when someone takes it too seriously, and/or too persistently.

It is improving in NSW though - that is for certain. Hopefully some other states will follow slowly but I wont be holding my breath for the ACT.

In NSW - I can own as MANY bolt action and break action guns as I like... in ANY calibre. Handguns (including self-loaders) too but only for target. I dont have to justify new long arm purchases for recreational hunting ... at all. If I become approved as a wildlife controller (fairly easy with good property access) I can own just about any self-loader too - but then I can really only use those firearms for that 'control' work.

There are PLENTY of countries with far more onerous laws than those in NSW....

I just wanted to point out that the emmigration from NZ to Australia raises the IQ of both nations.
(Incidentally, they mostly come back again. I mean, Australia is a nice place to visit if you like dirt, big spiders, bikini's, bad beer, cheap boots, Rugby league, exotic roadkill, currupt politicians and casino's, but you wouldn't want to bring a family up there.)

NZers mostly come back? and what immediately change over with the next 1 million people due to head over to Australia lol? 1/4 of NZ's entire population is always in Australia and the reason is, along with the above list- 1st world wages and dollar, which NZ never quite manages despite its 'superior IQ'. Now fuck off newbie and get some post count up Wink

As to this thread, I hope Bakes doesn't lock it.;D Why lock a discussion when people are
showing some honest masculine agression . Next thing we will have to stop hunting so as not to corrupt our new feminine 21st century personas.

No I won't lock the thread if it stays on track. But mostly they end up in a slanging match which I'm getting pretty tired of. Usually it starts with Gryphon who seems to have skin the thickness of tissue paper and who jacks up at the slightest thing and turns into name calling, inuendo etc. Pretty soon people stop posting about their hunting trips because its just not worth the hassle and thats a bloody shame. I was always pretty chuffed that we don't get half the crap on here that some of the other pages get. But I suppose you can't win em all.

My apologies to anyone from outside Aust/NZ - who may be reading this exchange.... we are all normally peace-loving peoples down here. Both countries have delicious cold beer, great hunting and homely buxom wenches .... keep your hands-off our wenches though!! Mad . Rivalry is there, oh yes - just as sure as the All Blacks are (currently) the best rugby team in the world and that drop-bears in Australia prefer soft, relaxed tourist flesh to the local offering .... but it is tempered for the most part by inebriation and a general dont-give-a-shit attitude!!

Funny thing the Kiwis I know in Australia (friends, work mates, colleagues) are just the same as us normal Aussies. Often don't even realise they are Kiwis until pointed out. Then realise they do have speech impediments. Funny thing for the Kiwis back in Kiwiland, all these Aussie Kiwis are raising good fully Aussie kids and families. And most NEVER go back. Realising how good they have it here.

It is always funny to see this "rivalry" as it is mostly all one sided. Kiwis saying "we are better or at least equal to Australians" and Australians saying "Kiwi's?" and scratching our heads wondering if it is an important issue. Wink

Muzza's quotation sums up the attitude well. Wink ie "as long as we beat Australia". Australian's attitude is lets actually win and be the champions. Wink

Pity NZ back in 1890 (thereabouts) did not stick with the independence conference with the rest of their fellow Australians and the concept of a United States of Australia (ie ha ha USA, now that would have been confusing Smiler ), instead of branching out.

For our foreign readers, all of this is just usually good humour and pretty much jibes just in fun. There is no real difference between Australians and New Zealanders. And New Zealand is a great place to visit and hunt. And also would be a great place to live too.

Nitrox hit the nail on the head. Kiwis and Aussies is a bit like US and Canada.

The bigger country has incomplete knoweldge and care factor regarding the smaller. If anything it assumes its culture is the same as theirs is.

This does however give the smaller nation an advantage when it comes to shitslinging and poking fun as they know a lot of details about their larger neighbour in comparison.

At the end of the day,as Nitrox says NZers to Aussies are pretty much guys who turn up with a slightly different accent, and are generally pretty quiet off their own soil to boot.

I also endorse NZ with all my heart. I spent a fair amount of time in New Zealand both enroute to and returning from the Ice and I love both the country and its citizens. I can honestly say that I was truly enamored with the people...kind, warm, open, incredibly gracious and again, kind.

I fought with myself over moving there myself back in the early 80s when I last spent time there, knowing that life there would be a healthier and better personal climate for me. I thrived on the complete lack of social issues that plague the states.

In the end, Minnesota/USA won but I can honestly say that I wouldn't hesitate a moment to take a trip there and spend a month hiking the Southern Alps, fishing the Waimak and exploring both the north and south islands.

I know that time changes things but I cannot believe that time has degraded NZ to any degree that we have seen here in the US. I felt safe anywhere in NZ and people I met on the bus would invite me home for meals and drinks, which instilled an absolute love for the people there.

we have a major social issue to be resolved tommorrow - its called a General Election.

Who ever wins and becomes the next Government wont fix the other social ills of our nation but at least we will know who to universally hate for the next three years.

We have social issues like anywhere else , and a few that are peculiar to NZ , but who doesnt?

I make an offer that stands, and that is that if I can ever help or assist any of you NZ'ers in any way, I feel its my goal in life to do so.

If you find yourself needing parts tracked down or related items to our hobby here, I will do all I can to repay all the kindnesses shown me while I was there. Don't hesitate to ask...and it's a sincere offer.
