Buff and Trophy Boar with Hunt Australia

I enjoyed a buffalo and trophy boar hunt with Matt Graham of Hunt Australia. It originally started out as a donkey cull. However, due to cancellations of three of the four in the group, I was destined to end up in Darwin by myself. Matt was kind in offering a change in venue and offered a trophy buff and pig hunt. It was arranged.

The hunting gods were kind as after a late start of the first morning and an extra cup of coffee, Matt suggested that we go look for some pigs. Immediately after leaving the farm complex, Matt sight a bull not 75 yds. from our vehicle in the trees next to a small creek. I asked if he felt comfortable with a behind the ear shot from my 308 pig gun. He didn't reply but said we should go back to camp and get a proper rifle, which we did. After a short walk and a few shots from my borrowed 375 H&H, the buff was down.

The buff was nothing for the record book but good for the area. I was happy.

We spent the full five days agressively hunting big porkers. I was able to take 12 boars and 4 sows. Most of the pigs were in the upper 80-90 kilos with two definitely going over 100 kilos.

In the islands, I get to shoot many pigs during the year. The island pigs are definitely smaller, especially on the island of Niihau where domestic stock was never introduced. The pure Polynesian pig is narrower frame with longer snouts and bigger ears for size.

So, whacking a bunch of big Aussie porkers is a real charge for me. I just can't get enough of pig whacking.

I've hunted with Hunt Australia several times over a 14 year period. Matt, as the successor owner, is doing a great job in providing a very professional outfitting operation.

Geoff's buff easily makes SCI record book of course and his biggest boar will rank around 22.

Thanks Roland, Bakes, and Yukon,

It was one of the few times that I had hunted alone as I usually go with buddies. It was great having received all of the effort and attention of the guides in getting the objective trophies.

Thanks everyone, especially Dom and Rose. The salvaged hunt situation turn out quite well. It will be almost a month since I took the porkers. Now, I going thru porker whacking withdrawals and will suffer until next year June or so when I get to whack a bunch more.

Best Regards,
Geoff

Geoff: (and Matt)

Congrats on turning a dissapointing show by your hunting buddies into a great time!

If you ever get a chance to do the Donkey cull you should definately go for it. While it is more fun to shoot with some buddies you can have a great time one on one.

Looking forward to getttng back down that way!

Thanks Mike O.
I've done the donkey cull four times previously with Hunt Australia. This past intended hunt was to share to great fun with friends who didn't show.

However, I did get to whack a few donks for pig bait. It brought back some good memories.

Thanks Shawn,
When you come over to Niihau, you will get your fill of whacking porkers, at least for a while. You may notice an increasing tolerance of porker whacking and the satisfaction diminishes so you need to whack more, sooner to keep the withdrawals away.

That's why after a good summer of porker whacking on Niihau, I hunted with Matt Graham's Hunt Australia in Sept.to not only get a buff, but tried to O.D. on Aussie Porkers. It worked so I am somewhat calm until next May when I go back to Namibia to whack another big toothed warthog.

Best Regards,
Geoff

Bit of a late post.

However, Matt if you read this, what bullets, make and weight were used in what I assume was one of your 375 H&Hs.
