NitroX, nice buff mate.

I don't think it's 'off-topic ness' so much as the new level of interaction Aussies have assumed mate.

There was always a time and place for a joke.

Now the time is anytime we open our mouths.

I think I made a post on your forum a year or so ago about how immaturity levels are now starting to bother even rough tough Aussies themselves. Seems we couldn't keep the latest generation of kids in line, thanks to all the restrictions against common sense, so we gave up and joined them.

Even I have to agree to some extent . I dont see the relevance of FC and his infatuation with Bakes butt on this thread , if thats Shauns thing fine , but this isnt the ideal location for it .

Thats a damn fine buff , by the way , the water makes it more of a challenge , as well as the double rifle . I am truly envious there mate .

A couple more photos. Worked out the FTP problem by an alternative method.

I'm actually very happy. But just like primitive men in Africa, cameras and I don't go well together. Unless I am behind it.

Actually I got a little morbibund because once you have shoot your animal the hunt is basically over. It wore off by the next day.

I know this is a stupid technical question, but what calibre and make is the double. A friend of mine has just bought a 450/400 cased H&H for $5200, sort of a "last rifle I'm buying" like we've all heard before.

Lovely buff, John. He really has some sweep to his horns. Did you have to stalk completely in water? Must have been a tough hunt.

Hey Nitro great photos mate !!! Can you share more details on the hunt. That looks like some viscous country. I can feel the bugs just lookin at the photos. How far do you guys have to walk in the water on a hunt like that and do you wear special boots ? It looks like a fun place for cocs and snakes. I bet a few Ice cold Fosters were cracked after that job.

I've written some of the hunt story up so far. Been promising it at NE.com for too long. Soon.

BAW

The rifle is a WJ Jeffrey in .450 No 2 Nitro Express. It dropped him with a shoulder shot as if he had been 'brained' but he after a few seconds tried to get up again. I can't remember him being very successful as I think both shoulders were broken. Nevertheless I hit him again. With some hiccups as the story will reveal.

The H&H sounds like a good buy. Tell us about it (and also at the Double rifle forum at NE.com - we would like to hear about it).

roo1

No we didn't take it out. That would be a little hard . Actually when they shoot buffalo for meat they shoot a calf. The cape, skull with horns were removed. It was about 100 metres away from dry land. The other bull taken by Steve was about 400 metres off in the swamps on the edge of paperbark swamps.

Ann

Yes we did stalk it completely in the water but after a long wait. The story is coming soon

This set of horns is more a crescent shape than a sweeper. We saw one sweeper which wasn't as along and had a good look at him at about 20 - 25 yards. I was looking at him over the double barrel sights by the way.

The hunt wasn't hard but the recoveries were a little more difficult.

Hobie & Chuckwagon

All coming.

I had about 200 or more mosquito bites on my back. Only about 80 on my arms and legs as I had RID cream on there. But these NT buggers could easily bite through a cotton shirt. I thought about a photo as I had one solid pink swelling of about a six inch square. They did itch. When I got to Darwin I bought and used a whole bottle of "stingose" the first night.

Crocodiles, yes but in the deeper water. Didn't see any though except using a torch at dusk when you can spot their eyes. Most of the swamps where both buffalo were taken wasn't deep rarely getting over the knees except somtimes most of it was mud. This was only on the edges of the flood plains where we hoped the buffalo would stay after they were shot.

Saw one black snake which I almost stepped on but that was on dry land. I hate snakes.

FOSTERS! Please no! That is sold to foreignors who know no better.

BAW

I wish!

That's a shell like a 45/100 Sharps is it not ? My mate has another double 500BP 3" Express with underlever and exposed hammers like this one (but not the tang sight mount). We swap projectiles in 50 cal for his 500BP and my 50/70. I've shot the BPEx and it's like having a Sharps in each hand.

Shame on you!!!!

The 450 No 2 and 475 No 2 compared to a 45/100 Sharps would be like putting a 218 Bee next a 22 Magnum.

Along with the 505 Gibbs the 450 No 2 and 475 No 2 are probably the best looking cartridges of all.

Not sure never having handled a .45/100 Sharps.

The .450 No.2 NE's case is 3 1/2 inches long. I load it with 105 grains of AR2213SC and still require 2 or 3 squares of foam as a filler. It is a big case. I know of someone who loaded one with 130 grs of AR2213SC and it still wasn't full. NOTE: DO NOT USE THIS LOAD !!!! IT IS DANGEROUS!

Lovely blackpowder double in the photo. Lucky man.

Yes a double is twice as good as two singles! And that is saying a lot.

So far, so good! You're an expert at stretching things out! I guess you must have lost a few pounds trudging through all that muck. That's an awful lot of work for your trophy. I agree that it wouldn't be tossed back, very nice.
